If players are taking the knee on their own, it is fine. But for the board or management to force it on players, it  seems authoritarian and fascist, which the liberals are supposed to be against.

It cannot be merit based for now. One sect of population which consists of majority are not given same conditions to succeed starting from schools. You cannot be all mostly white players respresenting a nation when majority of population is black.That is what has happened so far since 1992. Colored people were mocked as quota picks by white players which Boucher also admitted.

All that is agreed and I support reservations and quotas at schooling/education and low impact job levels.

 

But surely representing your country you have to be good enough on merit.

Unfortunately no in this case. The white kids have so much more going for them with all the schooling and facilities. Second and  foremost issue is are they looking all the kids from all black only on dominated areas.Those kids in those areas need some heros. I am not saying it is the right away to do it but when there has been centuries of injustice happening to a group of people , it is hard to overcome that in 20 -30 years.

 

It is like Indian team getting players only from big cities at first not realizing how much talent there is in rural India. Even now big cities kids have so much advantage in India.

But would you want to correct that by having lesser players representing India in WC just because they come from rural India?Those players won't be good enough anyway and lose crucial games.

 

If they are good enough they will come through. Black players like Ntini,Rabada,Philander etc have made it on merit and served their country well. Similarly rural players from India. They'd be heroes and inspire people.

 

I agree the schooling and facilities should have quotas to ensure good talent is not wasted.

I understand your point. but IMO it does not matter where they are, this generation kids might not interested, next generation might be into it. There is no one right way to do it. But playing majority white players is certainly not the correct way to do it.

 

Zimbabwe has lot of issues administrative side also like corruption .
