Having a strong leader cum captain, in both the white ball teams, is the only way forward

In the T20 World Cup in 2021, it is quite obvious that our team is not functioning as a unit. They are looking disinterested and nervous. It's as if they do not want to play.

There must be some problem or problems brewing in the dressing room.

And why won't there be !  We have a weak white ball captain who has probably lost the respect of his team by repeated failures in every white ball tournament he has ever captained in.

And the coaches and captain are leaving. This has signalled to the team that it is clearly in transition.

To make matters worse, a Mentor has been put on top of the Captain and Coach, further signalling to an already unsure Team that there is no need to follow the directions of the Captain and Coach. I don't understand which brain came up with this idea !

The only way forward for this unsure team, is to put in place a strong leader as Captain of both the white ball teams. There will be a new coach too. Please don't bring in any mentors !

The team must be unified and given direction by the new captain.

All the other aspects will fall into place. This is not an issue of blaming player X or player Y, and bringing in Player Z won't solve anything.

We have seen this exact story earlier as well

2007 ODI WC: Team against the coach, first round exit

2009 T20 WC: Major rift in the team - Dhoni vs Sehwag, team meekly surrenders to SA, WI and Eng in group stages

2010 T20 WC: The Dhoni vs Sehwag/Yuvi rift continued, despite Sehwag being withdrawn due to injury, again lost all 3 matches in the group stage

The Sehwag-Dhoni rift would have caused more damages in ODIs but for the presence of Sachin.

Since the 2019 WC, the Kohli- Rohit issues have plagued the team and has ultimately culminated in meek surrenders this WC. The captain has lost the trust of his dressing room, it's abundantly clear. The body language, the timid approach and fear on the faces said it's all.

How soon BCCI wants to cuts it's losses remains to be seen

Dhoni was pretty strong captain. got commentator fired. Kohli was pretty strong captain as well.got coach fired. Why do we need strong captain?:hmm:

Exactly !

Too much power in the hands of 1 individual ... like Dhoni post 2011 and Kohli from 2017 onwards ... has prevented Indian cricket from reaching its full potential.

We need different test match captains and white ball captains, to start with.

Selectors must not be pushovers. Have a person of stature as the Chief Selector and give him sufficient power to choose a good squad.

A level headed down to earth guy should be captain unlike the monkey we have now or the egomaniac we had before.

Everyone from BCCI to sponsors should realize that just having star power is not enough for brands. Currently their tactic is to invest in one or 2 super stars and let money flow in from them and give all power to them to do what they want, team and results come later

However see what happened after 2007 t20 win, 2011 wc win and aus test series wins. Team achievements is what makes common public get more interested in cricket and pay money to sponsors, not individual achievement

How much money will BCCI and sponsors lose if indian team crashes out in first round?

The the captain is pathetic is well known but what's stopping the players from stepping up to the occasion? Kohl is not going to hit them with a bat if they do well is he? Only Pant in the first game played a decent innings though he fell just when we hoped that he would take the game away from the opposition. The bowlers have been rubbish. Did the entire team just give up hope as soon as the toss was lost? In the NZ game, I think that's what happened.

And we are supposed to be the hosts for this T20 world cup...  Sad

ps: how many of you noticed that the ads in Star sports has either bollywood stars or cricketers.. Is there a dearth of creativity to have someone else or have animations? In the 90s & early 2000s, we had so many creative ads

Lack of camraderie in the dressing room can pull down the best. Remember the 2007 ODI WC.

There have been attempts to show everything is well in the team through family pics etc. All that looks to be a poor attempt at hiding the behind the scene ego battles which seems to have consumed the team. Such meek surrenders by a top team typically are reflective of a lack of collective will to fight and stand up for each other, driven by divided dressing room. If a defeat vs Pakistan and the resulting criticism couldn't get them to fightback together, it indicates a much deeper malaise. Only someone like Ashwin can expose the going ons, hopefully at some stage in the years ahead.

Plus the schedule hasn't helped at all. Two tough opponents back to back early in the tournament with the team morale totally shattered.

When players are disturbed mentally or become unsure of their roles or positions, they find it difficult to perform.

All 11 failing pathetically can't be an issue with form or wrong player choice.

Look guys I dont give a damn if we lose in t20 as t20 is unpredictable. Any dog can have its day if the toss is won. I have a problem problem with our team because we don't even pick our best T20 PLAYERS. OUR BEST PLAYERS OF T20 FORMAT DONT EVEN PLAY. We dint even pick the players that actually performed well in IPL lmao.

Venky iyer

Shaw

Dhawan

Umran

Siraj

Like wtf?????

Honestly if we lose even with our best side I won't be upset but not picking them in the first place really infuriates me.

I am don't with this team. I am not watching anymore until this rat steps down. Already cancelled kayo. Everything. * this.

Venky iyer, Umran (too late, literally no international exp) & Dhawan (just the same old) are understandable. Siraj should have been in the side. Shaw didn't do so well with the chances he got in International squad & also has fitness issues & fielding he needs to work on.

Mn this is t20. This is where experience has no besting on performance. You need top performers from ipl playing. Young or not.

We DO NOT need a strong captain.

We need a tactically good, inspirational, low profile and an introspective captain.

Kohli is dumb, arrogant, insecure and bombastic. But he is a committed person to what he believes as true. That makes him a tad better than Azhar the fixer. Else he would have gone down as the worst leader in Indian cricket.

A strong leader does not mean a person who has too much power in his hands or is an arrogant bully.

A strong leader means one who has a clear vision ... is a confident decision maker ... and can motivate and lead other people to victory. Someone who has empathy and tries to understand others.

A low profile person can be a strong leader too.

Going with a young strong captain is the way. But who are the candidates?

No one is there. We don't have any young player who has guaranteed spot in the team, let alone being the captain.

The youngest batsman who is guarantee across formats in KL Rahul who himself is approaching 30.
