Kohli was an woefully inadequate captain in shorter format even when he was not talking about retirement. After announced his retirement he became even more worse. We could see that with RCB.

Gambhir,Irfan,Sreesanth,RP,DK none of them played in 50 over WC . Barring DK, rest 4 were important in that T20 WC win. And no seniors barring Viru & Bhajji in the T20 squad .Fielding in T20 was superior to 50 over WC team due to mostly younger players. 

If Chappell had his way, most of the seniors would not have gotten into the final squad .

Tough 6-9 months of transition, but all depends on how tough BCCI can be with Kohli. He is not going to take his sacking as ODI/Test captain lightly. Will use all powers to resist any change, which will impact the team. We could be in a similar phase that we were in 2005 after Dada's sacking.

 

Hope Dravid is given a free hand to build a team as per his vision. We need a far more ambitious and visionary TM, not a bunch which felt beating Australia B in 2018 put us in the same bracket as great WI and Aus teams and then despite winning no ICC Trophies, both coach and captain felt they had achieved everything. And no more sub-standard test pitches at home please. Doesn't help anyone

IPL is not just for identifying potential players also potential captains.  Kohli has amazing track record lol. Still they continue backing him.
