Texan Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 We saw Srikar Bharat pull off some good catches and a very good difficult stumping as a substitute and hopefully, he can bat better than Saha as well. Saha as a Test batsman has been quite abysmal. Even with FC batting average of 42, he cannot even manage a 30+ average in Tests. Compare that to Dhoni (Test av: 38), Pant (Test av: 39) and you can see a huge dip in keeper contribution to batting when Saha is playing. The argument in favor of him was that he is the best keeper in the country. However, if even Bharat is able to keep so well, it makes you question the basis of that argument. Should Saha now be dumped for good?
First class Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 There got to be a better choice in India than Saha, who is 37 and hardly scores when needed,
The Realist Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 Saha looks older than 37. Barely plays and when he does he gets old man injuries. Should be retired. There's no upside with playing Saha when it's nearly 2022.
vvvslaxman Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 They put him on a pedestal after a couple of good catches in a few matches. We overlooked all his mistakes. He is no better or worse than anyone. Especially against spin he is just okay. Texan 1
Texan Posted November 28, 2021 Author Posted November 28, 2021 Add to that: Saha doesn't even contribute much to DRS unlike Pant and what we saw from Bharat in this game.
Sean Bradley Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Saha is not overrated, he's washed up. He's an Old War Horse, he will make a tremendous keeping coach. In his prime Saha was a beast behind the stumps. diga, Vijy, nevada and 3 others 6

urbestfriend Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Who rates Saha? He is a good keeper nevertheless , but past his prime..Today he played a decent knock..

Clarke Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 His sore neck gave Bharat a chance which was a welcome opportunity. One article said Dravid has been impresssed so overall no harm done with this selection.

It's his misfortune that his peak years has been ruined because Dhoni had to be played as a wk-batsman even though Dhoni has been pretty ordinary himself in Test cricket specially during his tenure as a captain. It is indeed true that playing Saha right now does not make any sense given his age but please don't disrespect a true hard working cricketer who has achieved everything from scratch without any lobby or backing. Even today he got India out of hole inspite of playing with injury. If our so called IPL superstars would have shown even 10% attitude and stomach for fight as Saha, then we would have won lot more in recent years. Vijy, nevada, Cricspin and 2 others 1 4
Lord Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 The era of pure WK is long gone. Batsman WK are the need of the hour. We'd not won in Aus if Saha kept playing above Pant
sensible-indian Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 (edited) Saha has slways been gritty. Scores important runs whenever he scores. Edited November 28, 2021 by sensible-indian Frustrated 1
Vijy Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 there are much bigger problems than saha in the squad. agree that he should be phased out and bharat should become second keeper.
