In 2016 NZ scored 236 in the last inning against a better Indian team when a test match was last played here.

That pitch was also better for batting wasn't it? There was also no DRS then, yes the past isn't an indication that things will go exactly the same in the future but more often than not it is a really good indicator.

Moreover I see you haven't justified any reason for why we batted slow for at least an hour? Pretty sure if they tried we could've declared at least 15-20 mins early, surely that would've been handy for even five overs today or maybe another wicket yesterday?

The fact is we were scared of losing - which is fine, understandable & that's why we'll never dominate cricket even with really really good players across all 3 formats! Heck we can't dominate tests in probably the weakest era since 50's or so.

Let's say we lose second test. Will you say we lost bcoz of goat captain Kohli. Period.  I am sure you will have other reasons then.:om:

You know that's not gonna happen.

Secondly even if we lose, I will definitely point out his failure, I am not a bhakt, I have stated many time here that he should have been removed from Odi captaincy after 19 WC.

His record in test is just great so no reason to not celebrate it.

It finally came down to that one wicket which Ishant was not able to take in this whole match.

Does it bothers him? Will he contemplate retiring in this series? On second thoughts, NO. Then the next match will become his farewell match and he’ll have to be selected for that match…

On bolded part, mentioned it already in my first post: "Saha & Axar got 67 from 20.4 overs once Iyer was dismissed, don't think they batted like the ship stabilizer. Neither of them is an established bat or anything close to confidently score fast & declare." I would have agreed with you if our full strength team was playing with middle order doing tuk tuk, but that wasn't the case here, this was Saha+Axar going at 3+ RPO.

The 4-5 additional overs is pure hindsight based vision. Its good that Jaddu got the ball to straighten later on day 5, he wasn't able to do that earlier in the game. But then Axar wasn't getting as many scalps in the second inning. This wasn't a usual dustbowl, hence I'm really not seeing this declaration as a major cock up. The thing in red (selections!) is what is majorly hurting us. Too many gaps in batting and on occasion in bowling.

4-5 overs early declaration wouldn't have made much difference...They could've declared 10 overs after the tea, but it seems they had made the decision of bowling 4 overs and stuck with the plan..

4/5/10 overs, we're missing the forest for the trees. Batters don't score, bowlers make it up for them and we ask why didn't they score faster. Or lambuji's (lack of) contribution.

Saha is definitely an established bat, not a good one but established for sure. You are also forgetting the three phases of their partnership -

Overs 61-69 (9 overs for 35 runs) or 8.2 for 31 runs if we want to be pedantic.

Overs 70-78 (9 overs for 15 runs) at just over 1.6 per over - can you explain this?

Lastly 79-81 (3 overs 21 runs) at 7 rpo - explain this?

You can't because their was clear message from someone, or tactic to bat slow till 4 p.m. or till a certain number of overs are left!

Not it's not hindsight, watch the passage of play FFS

They were killing our time & our chances of winning, I pointed this yesterday as well.

In that time NZ bowled 21 overs in almost 100 minutes post tea, well below the standard overrate in a game!

Wickets are beneath Ishant Sharma. We should be grateful for his presence on the pitch, he is there to guide the youngsters spiritually (if any were actually picked)

We need a DVD combo of his wickets and no-balls before any farewell series (one game is not enough) is announced.

List of reasons we didn't win the match:

1. Absence of GOAT captain.

End.

You know what. You are right about kohli being better than rahane but players seem to perform better under rahane for some reason.

Goat captain still undefeated though. Very poor tactics this time. Anyway rahane should be dropped because he sucks as a batsman.

I hope kohli isn't being nice and cordial to Kiwis. We could lose. We need to be aggressive. Be the bullies like Aussies against Kiwis. Why do we always play with less intensity vs these fake nice guys.

THIS

I have been saying this for a couple of years on here to all you emotional posters- the BCCI and players themselves dont give a GHANTA for international cricket, only priority for them is IPL. The money they make from international cricket is because of numpty bhakt fans who invest so much of their life in this nonsense sport.

Should be a sticky comment. We are royal c***** that we waste our time on them to fill their coffers.

They got scared because their pacers got tired. They would have got more exposed.

The on;y plausible reason I can think of is the utter failure of the BJP Govt. lead by Yogi Aadityanath. They focussed most of the time in developing the Ram Temple and Ayodhya and completely neglecting the needs of pitch at the Green Park, Kanpur... The Pitch was keeping low like the PayTM IPO but never broke or detrroriated at any time.

What best way to give a befitting reply to the devisive policies of BJP Govt than the dogged fight against all odds by the Ganga Jamuni partnership of Rachit & Ajaaz. Completely frustrated that uppercast Hindu bowling attack of swordman Jadeja, Patel and Ashwin... :nice:

Needed more support from pacers. Spinners bowled their heart out. Kudos to them. Especially Jaddu was magnificent, well supported by Ashwin.

I thought Bangladeshi fans are immature and novice to the game. But I guess we are not far off. Do we really understand the role of coach in cricket team ? Its not same as football.

Coaches definitely have inputs in selecting final XI as well as strategies. For example when dravid as captain declared with sachin at 194, chappel was equally involved

After the WTC final embarrassment, I thought the BCCI would do everything within its power to not just beat but crush the Kiwis at home but they have done the opposite, resting key players. When the hunger to win isn't there, how will the results be any good?

It was a great game of cricket and Curator needs to be applauded for creating this pitch which lasted whole 5 days.If they win hunger is there but if they don't win hunger is not there? What kind of logic is that?
