zen Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Since Rahane was not batting well, the myth about captaincy was created and got busted An ordinary bowler like Axar picking up 5-ers in almost every test at home exposes the records of Ashwin & Jadeja (rank turners are a no-no for long term competitiveness and development of a cricket team. But a team like Ind will look for easy options) Sad but not surprising affairs for a country that does not understand sports tweaker 1

New guy Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Its weird how @zen always likes mediocre players like pandya and always puts down true players like sachin or Axar. Axar is a brilliant bowler saik, Lord and nikrulz 3

rkt.india Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 On a non-rank Turner picked 5-fer. So is he ordinary?

neel roy Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Even if its rank turner we are supposed to play aijaz n sometville better than they ll play axar ashwin jaddu. Nz has rarely given us sporting pitches. Not sure why we cant ask for turners. At least with proper bounce. Are we sissies.. Sgattick10 1
rkt.india Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Cricket is highly conditions dependent. You get green mambas and swing pardise in SA, England. Turners in SC.
Lord Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Axar isnt ordinary and Ashwin/Jadeja have more than decent record in SENA last 5 years But then I don't even count overthrows as batsman's runs, what do I know. Vilander, Cricspin, express bowling and 5 others 7 1
sandeep Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Batsmen apart from a debutant **** bed in 2 innings, Zen promptly creates a thread about 'overhyped' bowlers with a lament about folks not "understanding" sport. Not sure why he is bemoaning about spinners not doing well. Spinners did well on a placid pitch. It was 100 test ghada that screwed us big time. Put siraj in his place, he would have won us this game with his speed, accuracy and bounce. I know siraj is injured but even prasidh with his bounce would have been deadly here. Prasidh is no slouch either. sandeep 1

Ind failed to bowl out NZ on 5th day in close to 100 overs ... and the topic is is on "myths"
Sean Bradley Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Not that I am big fan of Axar, but OP here is blatantly ridiculing him. Why haven't any other spinners from the opposition picked up the same amount of wickets Axar did? With the same kind of rank Turner's we beat England in England, Australia in Australia? So what the big NO NO about? What long term competitiveness OP is harping about? We just beat two giants in their backyards. Creating threads just for the sake of it, are we ? If these sena countries can't play spin it's their problem. You don't have to ridicule your own team and it's achievements. vvvslaxman, raki05, sandeep and 4 others 7

Prasidh is no slouch either. Folks are allowed 'off-the-cuff' remarks that might deviate from their general position on the game though. I wasa bit harsh on Zenny especially on the movies front. Bloke knows his movies. Does his overly pompous attempt at making a point about conditions and spin bowling have some merit? I don't think so. I think Ashwin, Jaddu are bonafide high-class test match spin bowlers. Obviously they are going to be good at taking advantage of available assistance. But it is in no way as lop-sided as Zen is trying to presume. If you can enjoy quality spin bowling, and understand the lines, the setups, the beauty of flight and drift, I'd argue that there's a lot, and I mean a lot, to admire about how Ashwin goes about his business. Jadeja too. His execution discipline, setup smarts, are under-rated because it doesn't have the obvious 'sexiness' of a loopy wrist-spin delivery that even a moron can see zip and turn. It is a bit confusing and 'type' mismatch to see Zen downplay the success of Axar Patel though, being a homeboy and all. I think it may have something to do with the perception problem. Some fans don't care about the actual quality of the player, or their contributions, and emphasize perception more. Axar is a 'boring' wicket to wicket spinner. He's not a tearaway pacer, not a big hooping wrist-spinner, or a boundary-slugging big batsman - Some folks do tend to get seduced by that type of player more than the 'boring' kinds. Hey, to each his own. Jay, Cricspin, vvvslaxman and 2 others 1 1 3

On a dead track like this, taking 9 wickets is not shabby. Was it reasonable to expect the bowlers to take 9 wickets on Day 5? yes. But there are mitigating circumstances. Now if the batsmen hadn't failed as badly as they did, and had managed to scrape together another 70-80 runs in the 1st innings, that would automatically translate to more than enough time to wrap up the test match. But you can fixate on whichever aspect of the match that you select. If you want to discuss the value of pennies vs pounds, thats your prerogative. Lord 1
