Covers all bases. With passengers Rahane and Pujara out and with Thakur's batting skills, we can finally take Ashwin instead of Jadeja.

Agarwal will be a sitting duck there.  KL Rahul and Rohit will open for sure.  Count dracula will get one more shot. Kohli at 4.  That will leave Gill and Iyer fight for one spot. Iyer himself is untested in these conditions. Pant. Pretty much every one of them in this line up is capable of having a terrible series. To cover these bozos Jaddu will bat at 7.  Ashwin will sit out which will be a travesty again.

Just add Shaw Gill to the middle order. Add sundar. Will be so much stronger.

Sundar is not available right? Shaw is a genuine opener. I will be surprised if he is forced to bat in the middle order. It will be Iyer/Gill assuming Kahane doesn't sneak through one more time.

If you look at the last series count dracula should not be playing. He merely averaged 16.66. Also did something unique thing like getting run out first ball he faced.

Gill can operate well in MO.

I am sceptical about iyer vs bounce but he is mentally tough, so thats there. 

Shaw can play MO too. He can blast tired attacks. However management have decided to make him open. Can out Rahul at 3.

Despite a good show in India, I think Iyer won't get into the playing 11 in SA.   As he has serious issues against short ball.    Likely, Vihari will play. (Assuming hahane is not there)

Shami, after he broke his hand in late 2020, is not the same bowler anymore.

 

He has become heavier and is bowling with less intensity, energy and pace.

 

While Saini is bowling like a Champion on this A-tour.

 

Shami has to get back to his old self.

 

We have to consider current ability and form. That should be the key
