Hardik Pandya injury: BCCI official to InsideSport, ‘Hardik Pandya thinking of Test retirement for the sake of white-ball cricket’

He is not a factor in tests. It is ODIs that he should be retiring from to preserve himself for T20. He has very limited shelf life left, hope he makes the most of it. I always sensed that bowling would wear him out and hoped that he would become an Angelo Mathews type of batsman but he hasn't become dependable in either discipline.

Still think Stuart Binny could have been a much better red ball player than Pandya. Just needed some luck

or even VIjay shankar in tests. Bar is that low.

If he doesn't bowl he is not useful in any format.  We have a new beast

Dont forget 2 overseas tests he was really good keeping in mind others were flops..

1. The Nottingham test of 2018. 5/28 with wickets of Root,Bairstow,Woakes in first innings and 1/22 with wicket of Stokes. Plus an unbeaten 52. India won the match

2. The first test in south africa 1/53 , 2/27 ( wickets of makram, elgar and du plessis) and 93 in first innings. India lost as the more coveted batters couldn’t chase 208 runs.

Even in second test he contributed with the bat.

There is also the first test at Edgbaston the lose which still hurts. He scored 31 in second innings the highest scorer when everyone else floundered. He ran out of partners and even if one of dk or rahane or kohli ( cant blame him he scored 149 in innings 1) india would have won the match. He bowled pretty well.

i am not even considering his other innings like his ton against sl. We need to be objective. He has contributed handsomely in 6 out of 11 tests he has played which in balance of probabilities is much better than mant indian batsmen now. It’s unfortunate he couldnt play tests due to injuries etc but purely from performance point of view he has done more than enough.

Is he even serious about his international career? Has been over a month since the WT20 ended but he's not yet reported to NCA despite some earlier news reports suggesting so.

The upcoming Vijay Hazare and more importantly Ranji season could have been a major milestone in his career if he could play through it and show he can regularly bowl 8-10 overs per day.

He's such a drama queen. Thinks too high of himself still! Do you remember his PJ drama in IPL, class or not the guy's probably a born retard.

Iss lodu ko apni aukaat pata chal gayi hai ab, he should thank his stars he is born in India & not in the land from where he actually thinks he belongs. WI has atleast 3-4 cricketers better than this Caribbean cool wannabe & they don't even get to play international cricket yet.

I might be wrong but this guy is all bling and no subtance.IPL has ruined lot of these players they are getting lot of money for doing very little. There is no incentive for guy like Pandya to struggle in domestic cricket to improve his game.I am all for players making as much money as they can in their careers. But cases like him and his brother who have done very little and have very little  incentive to play domestic cricket and improve themselves as players.

Pandya was given shortcut to Indian team and was made a sure starter in all formats but he never showed any improvement.

This. When you give it to people that easily without any performance to back, they will take things for granted and will treat it as an entitlement. For me the concern is not how talented he is , but what pathetic character and attitude he demonstrates, sets such a wrong example for many.

If Indian selectors had not treated him like next Kapil dev he would have done it.  He had this luxury because he was the only seamer all rounder. Everyone was spin bowling all rounder.  Moment he stopped bowling, he should have been dropped.

Thakur did more with bat and ball in limited tests he played. So this notion that was prevailing that he was core member and starter without any substantial domestic cricket was ridculous. It was such a mistake to play him for those 11 tests.

Lesson here is let us treat players with caution. That includes Venkatesh Iyer. He is the flavor of the nation now. But we have be cautious and see how he develops before making him an indispensable proposition.  Same goes for all players. There are some players who have come through grades and been earmarked as greats. They will deserve more backing. Gill is one such player. Did well at all levels. Just a matter of elevating himself to next level.

Teams are so desperate for seaming allrounders that they are willing to even try guys like Stuart Binny and Pandya.

Common, Pandya had much more potential than Stuart Binny or Rishi Dhawan and was rightly provided special treatment and backing. Trying or backing him wasn't wrong. The problem lies with Hardik Pandya himself. He thinks his IPL exploits are enough. Well he isn't wrong. Coming from a poor background, IPL is very lucrative and enough for his lavish lifestyle. Why would he focus on his game?

Pandya might have better hitting ability but Binny had better technique in batting. I always believe you don’t become test player just like that, you need some FC experience. He was never going to bowl 10 to 15 overs in day. His batting was never good enough.

He never showed any improvement, you grow as player once you start playing international cricket. Pandya regressed in all aspects.

IPL has sure given us some fine players. Hardik is definitely not one of them. He was lucky to be born in an era where Indian teams is full of one-dimensional players.  When Irfan Pathan came to scene he came in purely as a bowler. When India was tottering at 140 odd at   for 7 at Lahore he put up a 100 partnership with Yuvraj as a 19 year old.  Couple of tests later he did something more impressive. When India was staring at a defeat tottering at 125 for 8 vs the great Aussies, he and Bhajji added 89 runs for the 9th wicket. Scored 55 batting 4 hours against Mcgrath/Gillespie/Kaspa/Warne.  Next year he opened the innings with Gamhir made 93 vs Srilanka.  He was such a versatile player that you could slot him anywhere. HE had a good offensive and defensive game. This was all the while Pathan being our opening bowler.  Pandya at best a 2nd change bowler. A slogger down the order. No real defensive game. No first class experience. He came straight in Test side.

In edgbaston test 2018 kohli was the highest score in both innings ( not pandya in 2 innings)

pandya made only 15 & 6 against sa in 2nd test( so he don’t have any contributions in batting).
