No one retires in Pakistan and not in India  too , they all are eventually dropped from the team. . Even tendulkar's retirement was not very graceful . Many don't feel financially secure, hence try to stick with the team as long as they can. With so much money involved in cricket in India , they should not be too much worried about retiring from tests. But Pujara has no IPL contract, that's the problem .

Dropped way too late.

With respect to financially secure, these guys in Indian cricket team are all multimillionaires with or without an IPL contract, one just has to be a hoarder to feel insecure. They all get some or the other endorsements alongside their contracts over the years.

I don't see the need for them to retire, lets say we are allowed to keep a lucrative job without much contributions, its not common for any of us to quit out of personal ethics. Its the selectors job to select the best squad on which they fail time & again.

The 5 chores:

(1) Getting dressed

(2) Walking out to bat

(3) Taking guard

(4) Getting out

(5) Walking back

True. At least former Indian cricketers who went through a similar lean patch did at least one more chore

(1.5) Shave beard

But these guys contested that the contract doesn't specifically state that.

To put them out of their misery, the selectors can put them on a reduced salary and tell them to go find their form back in domestic/County(maybe a minor County or a league team will hire them?) if they ever want to be considered for selection again. Legends like Yuvi and Gambhir played domestic for years after their India career was practically finished. Why can't these two do the same?

What about kohli? How long will we tolerate sh!t show from Kohli in tests?

kohli's 26 , he looked solid and was batting very well.

Lets not crticize him just for the sake of criticising. he always wants to score runs and play for the team to win. his attitude is to win.

pujara and rahane do not have that attitude, they do play selfish innings.

i think currently selectors are ganging against kohli as he is a bit selfish and a proud man. but kohli has got us a good pace attack and thats the cause for over seas wins. i do not value win on spinning indian tracks.

if i was a selector i would consider the below guys ahead of Pujara and rahane in tests as on today's form-

  1. Gill
  2. shreyas Iyer
  3. Hanuma
  4. Ruturaj
  5. Surya kumar
  6. Ishan Kishan
  7. washington Sundar
  8. even Shikhar dhawan
  9. 5.2 ft short india Opener i am mssing his name( opened in india A vs africa A)
  10. other two India A openers.

i cant understand the LOGIC as to why these 2 are playing today.....

are u saying that gill, shreyas surya ,washington would fair badly against a trundling african attack where the fastest pacers is Marsen @140K. olliver is an average 130K trundler, ngidi is 130 to 135K and rabada bowling under 139K ( not his best form). left arm janson looks lil dangerous.

because they consider themselves to be bigger than them.

Both Pujara and Rahane scored a fifty and eventually earned one series more..Enjoy fellow icfers. :cheer5:

more like one extra year, not one extra series

Should have converted one of them. Still decent

they have ensured their selection for next 1-2 yrs. classic brinksmanship - scoring runs only when place is in threat, and then going to sleep afterward.

Iyer is going to be left wondering like Karun Nair.

based on current policy, it is indeed looking this way

One semi good innings and stuck with these losers for life

Any young Ind middle orders batters are better off changing nationalities

they can always go to Eng or NZ. the best two poachers in the business.

Honestly speaking, if India wins tomorrow, both of them have secured their places for another series/year because they have helped India win the series.

However, if India cannot dismiss SA below 240 and looses this match, their positions in the Indian test XI will still hang in balance. That is, their chances of staying in the team are 50:50. Then they would have to play match-winning innings in the third test and win the series for India.

The innings were a case of "too little too late". Just getting to a milestone 50 and getting out was not enough. They both needed big hundreds and driving the team to safety in order to deserve another chance. I would still drop them for the next match, but we know TM is way too sympathetic towards them.

they're going to play for another ~1 yr thanks to this innings.
