Being a player from the 80s can't believe he was implying there was an agenda against Rahane. DId he forget the fate of his brother in law GR vishwanath.   Vishy had a successful series against England in India. Also averaged 47 in England with 3 back to back fifties in 5 innings. Both in 1982 SL one off test was an inconsequential test. So his failure didn't mean much. He was also one of the architect of MCG win on a tricky pitch. Made 114 in 1981. Next series was against Pakistan in 1983.  He averaged 16.75 in 6 tests. That's it his career was effectively over. Happened to many players back then.

He has flipped for now. Once either/both make 30s, he will begin advocating for them full-time and revert back to cringy statements

There was no way he could justify their shoddy performances, so he had to say that. Nobody trusts his judgement any more any ways since he keeps backing players who flop.

For the sake of future of Indian test team , you hope both of them fail in 2nd inning. Unless any one of them play a big knock or a match winning one , they should be shown the door. A "good" 30-40 runs would be very annoying /

Why don't they leave with dignity intact like Sunny himself? At least some commentators should ask Sunny since he himself left abruptly in 1987 when no one was asking him to retire - shouldn't these players leave by themselves instead of being shoved out? None of his colleagues ask him this.

Exactly.  Put him on the spot with some stats on the relative decline of these two guys vs his decline (if at all there was one) in 1987.  And then make the point that it would've been more justified for him to stick around because there really was no one ready to take over whereas there are many capable youngsters knocking on the middle-order door today.

Central contract is worth atlast 5 chores. With ni IPL prospect this is their only way they can accumulate wealth. So they will try to stay until they get kicked out.

The problem is selectors more than team management. Very idea of including these bozos in the squad is to give them one more chance. TM is indirectly under pressure to play them.

Truth.  Other than the use of the word "bozos," I totally agree.  They are highly talented, accomplished international cricketers (and decent people, from all accounts) whose time in international cricket has passed them by.  Selectors need to make it clear that their time has come, unless they go back to domestics and significantly outperform all other competition for 2 seasons.

I see there is no mention of "Taking bath". Even if their batting is not potent (powerful), their bodies must be rather pungent.

No one retires in Pakistan and not in India  too , they all are eventually dropped from the team. . Even tendulkar's retirement was not very graceful . Many don't feel financially secure, hence try to stick with the team as long as they can. With so much money involved in cricket in India , they should not be too much worried about retiring from tests. But Pujara has no IPL contract, that's the problem .

They have lowered the bar so much that 30-40 has become their century.

He hasn't declined as much as Shaun Pollock did in his final years though and ended as lower tier ATG

I believe they have no choice now but seem them through this series. If India loses this one, would they have courage to go with two replacements in the decider.
