Kept backing Rahane, Pujara and Ashwin during tests, had taken a dig at Pant for his shot in the 2nd tests, doesn't say a thing about the go slow selfish approach of our senior batsmen, says the top order 1 to 4 all places are taken and there are no open spots for youngsters, defends the non-wicket taking ordinary spinners Ashwin and Chahal, praises Shardul and Deepak Chahar, even defends Rahul's captaincy but whom does he single out for criticism - Iyer and takes an indirect dig at Pant and Venky Iyer blaming the middle order. His priorities are clear. Will prove to be a disaster if there is no course correction. I had some hope left but after that post match PC, hard to see anything but a steep downhill slide from here on. Our current situation is looking like a repeat of the 2007 WC, where Dravid captained a bunch of oldies in a disaster of a world cup as we got beat by young toygers of all teams in the very first game! One after another, he is making serious errors of judgement. Suhaan and ShoonyaSifar 2

Atleast Jadeja is understandable. Pandya walks back into the national team the second he's fully fit. Its your ignorance that makes you think he's been "kicked out".

Sundar hasn't been setting the world (or even IPL) on fire yet, not even close. Jadeja is among a handful of consistent players we have got. Jaddu's great, love him. But now its time to look forward. Sundar is a guy who can bat at #5 in ODIs, and bowl up to 10 overs regularly. Does India haev other such guys available? Next WC is in India, Sundar's bowling is already proven, and I believe in his batting abilities to the extent that I feel that given a chance his ceiling is higher than Jadeja's and that he can be more effective batsman for India in ODIs. Sundar can easily replace a batsman at 5 and give us 6th bowling option we desperately need. Also it'll allow us to bowl offies to lefties and SLA to RHB Sundar is great in T20,not sure he bowls 10 overs in even List A.

Bro you want good hitters at 5 and then you come up with Sundar as a solution, I'm quite sure you have seen him perform in IPL, he isn't a high strike rate batsman and isn't suited for no. 5 position. If he bats at no. 5 in odis that will only derail his career. As of now he is just a contender for test matches.

No. 4-5 is mostly middle overs and you need to consolidate and bat long.Iyer bats similarly Sundar has proper technique and can play shots v best bowler as we saw in Aus. He might not be there yet but needs to be groomed as we need a 6th bowler. Can be better option than Venky. IPL is T20s so its different.
cricketfan28 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 SDP will comeback, jadeja probably not .

We have Thakur and Chahar now, both doing better than Pandya recently. Jadeja hasn't been dropped, he's injured. They would have played him over Ashwin (&Axar) in the ODI series if he was fit.

Per selectors, they wanted to give SDP a message on fitness. They accepted that Indian team cannot be without him for too long: India vs West Indies: Rohit Sharma fit to lead; Hardik Pandya can make a comeback I hope that he focused on IPL as these are not high profile bilaterals
Bigg Brother Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Well Pandu hasn't done bad in ODIs, contributed even as pure bat. It's t20s where he has been totally useless and hasn't replicated what he does for MI.

Because ODI modern rules don't allow for 30 overs of spin to be a viable strategy, and Jaddu, bowling at his best, is not a wicket taker. Sundar at least can stake a better claim at 'containment', as well as offer higher potential with the bat. I'd rather have a Rahul Chahar or a Mahipal Lomror type as my second spinner. A wicket-taker. Jaddu is a serviceable spin bowling allrounder, but not quite what the Indian team needs to put up its best possible XI to win the next ODI WC. This is my personal opinion obviously, but one I feel pretty confident about. Lord 1

Vijay shankar was the only one available. He consistently goes missing. Now he can't bowl regularly. Essentially he wants to play as a pure batsman. You would rather play a specialist batsman over him. You could play Isan Kishan over him if he can't bowl. You can use Kishan as a floater.

I really struggle to understand what drives such a visceral dislike for a rarity of a player like Pandya. I mean, the guy is a bonafide success story as an ODI bat, and when fit, bowls quality useful overs. Even Shane Watson struggled with chronic injury problems. It just goes with the territory when you bowl pace, especially for a guy like Pandya who didn't really grow up bowling much. zen 1

Unfortunately, many Indians do not comprehend sports. If the ball is hit in the air, their first reaction is that the batsman will get out. Cricketers are supposed to be like the studious guy, playing everything safe, sitting next to your bench in school (These guys are not likely to be entrepreneurial too and mostly in “safe and probably boring” 9 to 5 jobs). They probably watch every game as if India owes them something and it should win because they are watching the game Trying to make them understand sports is like playing a flute in front of a buffalo Edited January 25, 2022 by zen anish2tweet 1

They probably watch every game as if India owes them something and it should win because they are watching the game Trying to make them understand sports is like playing a flute in front of a buffalo I think thats way OTT and unduly harsh. When it comes to Pandya, I think a lot of folks just pigeonholed him as a bowling allrounder. From that static perspective, he offers no value unless he bowls. In reality Pandya was always a batsman who bowled a bit. And his ODI batting performance record is arguably good enough to deserve a spot in the team even if he stops bowling completely. But if you are stuck in that mindset, then that's that. Add to that, certain pre-conceived notions about 'behavior', 'tattoos', certain regional biases etc also play a role. Not everyone is able to be objective. I mean, just take a look in the mirror and see how one-eyed you get when it comes to Pandya!
