India’s head coach Rahul Dravid had no hesitation in admitting that the ODI squad lacked balance with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja unavailable to execute their all-round skills at numbers six and seven respectively.

“I think if you are a little bit honest, some of the guys who help us balance the squad out and give us those all-round options at Nos 6, 7 and 8 are probably not here, and available for selection,” Dravid said, clearly talking about the absence of Pandya, who is trying to get his bowling fitness back and Jadeja, who is recuperating from a knee injury.

“Hopefully, when they (Hardik and Jadeja) come back, it will give us lot more depth, it allows us then to probably play in a slightly different style,” Dravid made it clear as to what he missed in the series.

While India has tons of top order (#1-3) options, likes of SDP are irreplaceable ...  But SDP, don't rush back and focus on IPL. If he does well, likely to be captain of India in the next 24 or so months!!

I think Chahar should be selected. He bats well and has ability to seam ball both ways at will. With him in team, we could potentially have bats till number 9. That will give massive freedom to our top five bats

at the moment Chahar & Thakur seem better options than SDP who breaks down often. At least the other two will give you 10 overs & bat decently, SDPwill not show up all together except may be in IPL.

^ Both Thakur and Chahar have been positives for the series along with Sky. If i was selector, i would pick all three in Australia. Assuming Bhumrah Pant Rohit Dhawan Gill and kohli are in the team, we should now induct Sundar. Also we should look for immediate replacement of Kohli. May be replace Kohli with KL.

Give a specialist spinner like Axar and another pacer to support bowling line up. That should do.

SDP can not bowl. Chahar and Thakur can bowl. Chahar will take wickets with new ball in most matches.  Thakur will find couple of magical deliveries in middle overs. That in itself negates by miles anything special SDP brings in batting strike rate

Jadeja's time is done in international white ball cricket.  Its time for Sundar.

Jadeja was the (2nd) MVP of the last IPL season. Did very well in the previous edition as well. Sundar hasn't been setting the world (or even IPL) on fire yet, not even close. Jadeja is among a handful of consistent players we have got.

Give some credit to Dhoni as well. Not evey keeper understands relationships between bat movement  and spinning ball.

It is a backhanded slap on the face of the team that actually played when their coach says "we wish we had X or Y because ... ya know ... the A B and C who played are not up to snuff."

Way to motivate your boys, coach!!

Say what you may about his beer belly and his tactical deficiencies (personally, I think we fans are not qualified to make this criticism in the first place, but whatever), one thing RJS did very well was prop up his team in public.  He shielded them from fan-criticism.  That's what a coach does.
