Help!!! Losing interest in cricket.

I mean it is absolutely normal if you are finding yourself having this lost of interest with the sport. Well at least you can focus on other things or even other hobbies, like Working out, playing video games or casually betting in casino days, reading books or even trying out a new sport. I got to that phase where I got burned out by other stuff but not cricket, I did the same thing as well. I tried to do other things including the things that i got tired/ burned out.

I have joined this club. Probably not able to follow IPL  could have triggered it.

Bowlers getting clobbered kills the game. 

 

Bring in substitution in cricket as well . Make boundaries minimum 70m.

 

Have bowling powerplay i.e. get tampered ball for use for 10 overs which can swing left right and center.

 

Keep test innings for a max of 90 overs per innings . That way you can have a result within 4 days or 5 days assuming it's a rainy day .

 

Playing with this rigid rules makes it look like there is no strategy in cricket . 

 

I feel more intrigued by American football as opposed to cricket .  A tackle made is more interesting than a ball that beats outside edge.

 

I think with reduction in boundary sizes , we are seeing all crappy shots going for sizes. Where are those glorious cover drives and square cuts .. very far and few here and there.

 

One more possible thing .. life is too fast paced with internet and mobile. So cricket is not able to retain old world charm.

Same. I hardly watched any match in this ipl but i still have interest in watching exciting test cricket doesn't matter even if india is playing or not. Maybe it's due to too much of t20 cricket these days. IPL getting rescheduled multiple times feels like we played twice a year.

I watched the first few games of this IPL enthusiastically and then lost interest. It felt like a chore to watch a game every day. Regained my interest towards the closing stages of the league phase with the play off race heating up.

India in SA used to be a blockbuster series regardless of the results. We ended up with the same results as before though, but look at the boring teams. One of the most boring and laborious SA teams ever and the series was even more boring.

only decent match I can recall was the SA-Nz 2nd test match but even that was alright (based on highlights). It was an upset that’s about it.

 

Then you have all the leagues that no one watches may be except for Pakistanis and PSL. We know how good these league matches are.

 

Till the WC’s/WT20 nothing really exciting. Don’t give a damn about the 5th test vs England. If we lose going to be bitter for losing the momentum when we were on top. If we win, it won’t have the same high as winning a series at the time it took place like Australia 2020.

Ive lost interest in most cricket too.

There's way too much T20 cricket happening - IPL, 5  match bilaterals etc.  

 

Modern bats are ridiculous and the white kookaburra ball is utter rubbish leading to a massive imbalance between  bat and ball. 

 

The balanced white ball cricket we saw in the 96-03 period is all but over.

There was a time when I used to watch every cricket game I could find on my cable TV even if it's Oman vs Netherlands in an empty Abu dhabi stadium. One time I almost watched an entire day of a county game that involved Somerset. Remember trescothick scoring a hundred there with runs coming at 2 RPO despite nothing happening for the bowlers. 

 

Now I only follow..

2. Test series in SENA

I watched Tennis yesterday after very long time. Nadal's match. Found it boring and switched to WWE..

Its an interesting topic and these are my thoughts.

 

In India, cricket is basically 365 days a year 24/7. It can and does not only get exhaustive but stale after a while.

 

Cricket games, tournaments all start to merge and blend into one, with the exception of Test Cricket. This is further compounded by cricketers appearing to show less interest and desire to play for India and more so for the dollars of IPL. This is further amplified by the BCCI failing to promote youth or new players constantly to keep older established players interested, as they know their spot in the team is guaranteed.

 

I do see the benefits of IPL and I however also see the negative of it. The major negatives are that the IPL is just way too long and seems to dominate and control the cricket year not just in India but worldwide. I think there is also a problem when Indian cricketers prioritize their IPL franchise over team India.

 

Im sure many in here would rather see their franchise winning than team India.

 

If you had to pick your franchise winning 4x in a row or team India winning a World Cup, which would you chose? I get the feeling most would chose their franchise and thats a big part of the problem.

 

Another issue is cricket fatigue. In countries like the UK and Australia, cricket is ignored for over 9 months of the year. In the UK its football and rugby as the primary sports for the majority of the year. In Australia its AFL, Rugby and Football, so we have diverse interests. Naturally when cricket is played its exciting to watch and enjoy. This is how in Australia all kids are raised, AFL,rugby,football in winter, cricket only in the summer.

 

In India you dont have this, so cricket 24/7 over 365 days becomes boring after a while and many people lose interest. I always get surprised when I hear Indians in Australia have no passion for cricket, similarly in India I get surprised when I hear many Indians do not follow passionately the Indian cricket team.

 

Where is cricket headed?

 

I believe one day, that IPL will further dominate the calendar for months of the year, it will be like how Rugby, football and AFL are. ie Going for 5-6 months. I think international cricket will be like an IPL tournament, ie for two-three months only.

 

It wont happen overnight, but I can see a future 30-40 years from now happening.

 

Just remember where white ball cricket was 40 years ago and where it is today. Test cricket will disappear, its the  generation that have grown up with IPL  from Day 1, that will have no interest for Test Cricket and the length of time.

I suppose I am in the same boat. IPL is fine for a month but then gets too long. Now they are talking about 6 month IPL. At that point I think I'll be completely done.

It will destroy Indian cricket.

 

IPL is fine for the locals for 6 weeks max.

 

Endless meaningless games is ruining the brand of cricket.

 

For the past two months, all I have done is perused the scorecard and hope Indian senior players and or exciting kids bat and bowl exceptionally well.

 

Outside of that, I never cared.

 

I could be wrong here, but I found the International stars to have dominated the scene in many games.

6 months long IPL will kill the game for classic cricket fans! But that's the path the BCCI will end up taking.

What I fear about the IPL and BCCI is that eventually a day will come when the IPL becomes like the EPL or AFL/Rugby in Australia it will dominate the calendar for the majority of the year.

 

The difference for Australians and the English is that these sports are winter ones and once its over we are happy to watch and play cricket.

 

For Indians, when the IPL is over the last thing they want to watch is more cricket. See for me I am excited to watch India v SA in the T20, not many Indians will agree with this, because of the IPL.

 

Massive difference between the countries.

 

IPL has the potential to destroy not only Indian cricket but world cricket as well.

 

Why play for your country, when you can make more money easily by playing IPL?  At the end of the day, cricket is a job for these guys?

Tbh Ipl was really entertaining almost all of the matches were nail-biters, with the exception of final
International cricket has become tedious in recent years, and to make matters worse, we have a lousy loi side full of crooks like Rahul, Pant, and Jadeja.
Unless things improve, I'll refrain from watching our loi side.
