I want the IPL to sustain its monopoly over Indian cricketers over the short and medium term. If and it should be a BIG IF - if Indian players are to be made available to any league, such a concession has to come with major, major quid pro quos. I think if we do allow Indian players it can’t be anyone who has played for India in any white ball format.

Right now these guys play only in familiar Indian conditions. So not sure which one we should take it seriously.- This. A million times. This. And even if someone like Tewatia never gets to don the national colours, he can maximize his income by plying his skills beyond the 8 IPL weeks. From a fringe-player perspective, I am supportive and may even watch these leagues now if guys like Tewatia, Tripathi (where is he after that one chance?) etc. play in them.

I would be ok with players that announce complete retirement from Indian cricket as well as IPL. And maybe I could be open to an arrangement where younger players are allowed to gain experience - but its harder to design a structure around that - maybe players who haven't debuted internationally for India and are under a specific age - call it 21 or 22. Something like that.

That will ultimately lead to audience fatigue - you can deny all you want, but all of us have some extent to which we'll watch cricket and its not unlimited. If you are watching 30 IPL games and 40 odd India games every year, along with casually following a few non-India games, if you add another 10-15 games each in a 2 or 3 non-IPL leagues, even you are watching a higher 'total' of cricket games, you're going to end up watching fewer of those IPL and India games. That's just human nature. Besides, forget about individuals or audiences, those other leagues will definitely earn more profits with Indian player participation, and they are the competition - make no bones about it. It is what it is. Why should Indian cricket offer up its player assets to other leagues so that those leagues can earn more money? BCCI did this once already by the way - the Champions T20 league format was essentially a money transfer setup - 90% or more of its revenue was from Indian audiences, and a lot of these other teams and their leagues raked in serious $$$ by participating or for 'allowing' their player to play for IPL team instead. Its ok at that point, the IPL was still new and it was in IPL's interest to cultivate a global audience for what was then a new-ish format, and franchise cricket itself wasn't a model with proven revenue and 'legs'. But now there is no need for any of this. The only 'benefit' is to other leagues, and to individual Indian players who may earn extra income, and some sort of marginal 'developmental' experience. I assert that overall, for Indian cricket as a whole, the costs are not worth the benefits.

While we encourage that what is wrong with encouraging players in other leagues in various conditions against different oppositions. If Indian cricket team benefits something then that should be the highest priority. Fans are not going to see a dime from BCCI's revenue from the IPL. We just want our players to gain experience and do better. Ever since IPL started India did not win a single world title in this format. Shouldn't that matter to an average fan more than how much money BCCI makes? We can be fans of Indian cricket team not BCCI. Their job is to improve standard of players, enhance infrastructure, take care of all the cricketers playing at all levels. Not just making money out of IPL through money launderers. It is a different matter no league depends on Indian players. They are running fine on their own. BCCI is not going to bankrupt if other leagues flourish because of Tewatias, Rinku singhs playing BBL. Norman 1

Need4Speed Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 We dont want corporates having power over the board…they are just to make money..long term it may hurt for fringe player developments..more A team tours are fine..
Lord Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 for money and power pov I can understand posters against it But I'm all for our players playing different players in varied conditions. They'll be far more developed.
zen Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I am against any restrictions on players unless they are contracted by their respective boards. The contracted players under a board’s control should also be in top two tiers (In middle to lower tiers, contracted players get peanuts/token income. The players can potentially earn more than this token income by playing only a few weeks of franchise cricket). May be this is also a harbinger of a shift towards franchise cricket gaining more importance over random international cricket apart from marque ICC events.

It is also the entire reason I support the IPL. That's all fine and good - but you have to think about the Indian cricket fraternity as a whole. The reality is that the IPL earnings are more than lucrative enough - for any decent player - to not necessarily need the additional income from other leagues. This is most definitely not the case for CPL, PSL or even BBL for that matter. And the fact is that its the IPL's profitability that allows for the 10x salaries for the players, especially Indian ones. And an individual player's personal potential benefit does not override the case for safeguarding the profitability of the IPL. Tha'ts my point. I mean, these are tough questions to answer, and there are legal questions of individual's right to earn as well. But my point is that the current status quo is very beneficial to BCCI directly and Indian players - current, retired and future - indirectly. There is not much of a strong case to change this status quo apart from the random individual personal profit benefit, and an arguably marginal 'development' benefit. But you can't keep this door shut forever. That's why I think allowing for IPL retirees, and u-22 or some other age-driven 'young' bracket, may be the eventual way forward... BacktoCricaddict 1
maniac Posted July 26, 2022 Posted July 26, 2022 (edited) Good move: I don’t think the below names will never be allowed by BCCI to play foreign leagues due to work load management Rohit Kohli Bumrah Pant Pandya Jadeja Rahul Shami These are the upper tier stars and they barely are fit to play against weaker teams in internationals they won’t be playing foreign leagues. However there are enough players who will benefit huge from this. I think especially players who have no prospects playing longest formats of the game should be allowed. If they shine in other leagues their reputation will only grow which will help the brand or even if it doesn’t help will not impact negatively. Here are some names that should be allowed Krunal Pandya (belated and advance happy birthday @sandeep. Consider this your present) Varun C Sanju Samson DK Jaydev Unadkut Rana Tripathi Patidar V.Iyer And a few other names that fit that category. in the future SKY D.Hooda Avesh Khan Kishen These are players that can do well still keeping the exclusivity of IPL.
