There's a question on espnc asking if playing DK over Pant was the right call

BS question.

 

Based on current form and future prospects both DK and Pant should play. They are not competing for the same spot.

 

The real questions are whether they made the right call playing Rahul over Pant or VK over Pant. Answers:

DK can be wildly inconsistent. But when he clicks he wins match singlehandedly. Especially if it is against pace bowling.

DK is an extreme specialist, he can only come in after the 15th over and still takes 6-7 balls to get set before he actually tries to hit. Pant in T20Is isn't anything special over the last few years though. Tiebreaker might honestly be their keeping, Pant is miles better.

Brainfade from TM. Clearly we should drop Avesh and select both DK and  Pant and believe that Pandya can bowl 4 overs , Even if he gets hit, believe he can bat it out. 6 bowlers with Pandya is a luxury or we need to drop a bat for Pandya.

5 bowler in this heat is too risky. We saw what happened with pakistan- rizwan, naseem, rauf all got cramps but they had part time bowlers if needed 

3 of our bowlers are already injury prone- bhuvi, jadeja, hardik and hardik if you remember his injury begin in Asia cup in UAE only

If the opposition is pace oriented go with DK. If the opposition is spin oriented (afghanistan) go with Pant. Doesn't mean they are weak against certain type of bowling. Not that DK can't play spin or Pant can't play pace. But when it comes to dominating they dominate one type of bowling better .

Pant is a Super Star, use him as an opener and he can create Havoc. You can't drop Pant for DK in any team in any format, with all due respect, DK is playing for the past 15 odd years, but never played an innings like pant has played in Gabba or against England recently. It's a crime wasting Pants Prime for DKs Up Down Up Career.

Pant vs Rahul can be an argument, but Pant still trumps Rahul as an opener In White Ball Cricket.

Realistically unless KL continues to suck with single digit scores till t20WC, you can expect this team management not to tinker with the opening combo. 

 

I hope I am proven wrong though. Considering DK didn’t do much wrong in the Pak game they will persist with him. So baring some poor performances form either of the two, I don’t see how pant can get back into the team.
