BCCI Fires the Selectors… Breaking News!

Lol some other lallus will apply for it....  Why can't BCCI hires someone straight up?

Irfan,  Parthiv,  Zaheer or even likes of Srinath.

why would those guys bother risking their media careers over the  thankless job of selection.

There's a reason why BCCI 'administrative' and selection positions only attracts the 2nd tier players as "candidates".  Its always the likes of MSK Prasad, and other never-weres who line up for the job.

The problem with India's sub-optimal T20 results over the last decade has been a refusal of the BCCI as an organization to take the format seriously and evaluate players for selection strictly based on the demands of the format.  They continued to use t20 international selection spots as 'rewards' for so-called consistent players like Rahane even when everybody could see that he's a misfit in the format.  Even as late as 2021, 2022, the emphasis was never on hitting capabilities of the top order but orange caps and 'consistent' big runs.   Results are of course predictable.

I have said it time and again, India is going to be the first host loser of the ODI world cup since 2007 and its all due to abject mismanagement of player resources, flawed selection policies that cater to preserving the primacy of "senior players" over the team's interests.

It’s not whom they fire it’s about whom they hire.

This ultimately is still a problem.  And to a certain degree its not even the next selectors - its the entrenched organizational mindset of "stability", and inertia.  Which is present in the team leadership - captain coaches etc.  They all know where their interests are, and their incentives are constructed to line up with that - not the team's.

Ghanta kuch badlega- next of selectors will also be yes men to the Captain and powerful media lobbyists

The issue with Indian selection committee is more in structural. doesn't matter who is there, they will making same mistakes.

For some reason, I like Ramiz Raja's approach. he is sending notices to all formal pakistani cricketers like alpha male. Ramiz raja is teaching a lesson to all " Batamiz Raja" or pakistani cricket. he got some guts to do it.

BCCI should get some balls and make some hard decisions like make foreign coaches, kick fat guys out of LOI, put some new blood in team.

So then what is he doing in selection meetings? He was also the one who officially announced the 2021 t20 wc squad.

Secretary is always present in the selection meeting and usually secretary announces the squad. Secretary is the convener. Jay Shah isn't the first secretary to be in selection meeting. He has no say in selection. President should not be in selection meeting but Ganguly broke the protocol while secretary being there is the protocol to oversaw the meeting and make sure everything goes well because secretary has no veto power in selection. Only selectors and captain. Even coach can only give opinion, not selection voting power.

A welcome decision but I feel this is more a move to appease the fanbase who are baying for the BCCIs blood post the semis thrashing.

All this new era talk is moot if you don't sack the management that was responsible for the debacle in the first place.

They will replace the old faces with young and glamorous faces probably even appoint Thala in some role as well and continue business as usual.

Are you reading from BCCI’s “official” rule book?

He is there to run the business and give the exact same excuse if things don’t work out. You realize why he got the job right?

Yes, he is there to run the business, not select players or coaches or even selectors. He is an administrator. BCCI create advisory cotton select coaches or selectors. Administrators don't select any coach.

How do you know that he doesn't influence decisions? On paper, he might just be the convener but reality might be rather different.

It's not like they publicly disclose the minutes of the meeting.
