What is this obsession with Chahal. He is NOT international class - Chahal never deserved to play for India.

Read my post again, stats wise he has been the best spinner since 2015 in ODIs while this thread says that he is not international class which is as clueless as it gets, I know about his lack of utility but he has had a good career and can be proud of it.

Chahal in the last 3 yeasr has poor numbers.  He did have a good phase where he and Kuldeep worked well in Tandem. But post pandemic his numbers were seriously piss poor

Except other three can bat, Jaddu can field well. In order to be part of XI purely as a batsman with zero skills in other areas he has to be extraordinary like Shane warne who incidentally can hold a bat.

Chahal is nowhere near being a great odi bowler or even a shoo - in our lineup but people are unnecessary hating on him bcoz of his off-field antics.

If Chahal had a horrible ODI career then there is no other spinner in the world (since 2015) who had a good odi career, bcoz Chahal not only has better overall stats than them but also has better performances in the major event.

The hate is unnecessary and he has had a fine career, infact I will go on to say that he had a better ODI career than any other spinner since 2015.
Also, people may find it annoying and maybe even funny but Chahal is up there amongst the top three ODI spinners India has produced, I challenge all to refute this in any way possible (using stats and not hypothtetical scenarios)

 

Good post in some ways. Indians, both fans and TM, overrate spinners way too much and end up picking too many in a squad. 

 

It's a mindset issue. We desperately want to be a pace heavy nation but keep picking even finger spinners for their bowling in this day and age for God knows what reason. 

 

And the only time we actually produce a decent spinner (relative to global standards), we trash him. 

 

The thing is, a team only needs 1 wrist spinner and Kuldeep is better right now. 

 

Against Top 6 sides in this World Cup cycle,

 

Zampa averages 23

Kuldeep 31

Chahal 35

Adil Rashid - 37

Shamsi -33.4

 

So, Chahal has been there and thereabouts  even against top sides though he has declined from before

Do not think he can be in playing 11 in WC like tournaments where all teams fields their best 11. Most of his IPL or intnl wkts are when batters trying to reach his deliveries bowled way out of out off-stump line and there is a need to score quick runs and the batter mishits or their is a power failure, this does not work against top side who have proper hitters at both ends.

 

Plus its like playing 1 fielder and 1 batter less, that kind of exception can only be made for some1 who is sure match winner in big games.

Bowlers like Rashid and Hasaranga keeps the pressure-on and are v.good fielders and then can hit a few while batting. Chahal lacks those abilities and provided Ind team composition if he is not having a good day with bowling you are effectively playing 10 players on the field

Just sad to see bitterness being played out in public. Humans love tamasha, they will enjoy at your expense so no matter how bad it was, two need to keep it between themselves. Irrespective of where he is in terms of cricket, i really like chahal as a person. He is just 35, cricket will end soon but he has to lead his life and i hope both of them find purpose and happiness.
