What was the need to produce dustbowls for the last 2 tests?

We beat England 4-1 on excellent pitches earlier in the year. Why didn’t we produce similar pitches here for the final 2 tests.

We produced these **** rank turners instead which brought the NZ spinners into the game and shot ourselves in the foot like morons.

I don’t understand why they even wanted dustbowls when you had great success with normal pitches against BazBallers.

All we had to do was produce good pitches like we did for England and we most likely could have won this series to.

Ashwin and Jadeja are more than good enough to take wickets on good tracks as well as they did against BazBall!

They were hoping they would win the toss. Backfired. But that is not the only thing. India took the lead in the last test. In the second Test, NZ scored more runs in the 2nd innings than India scored in the 1st innings.  India was exposed in various conditions. NZ looked more like a home team than India in this series.

Sigh...we call everything dust bowls and rank turners these days.

Until India gets good spin playing batsmen, this misconception wont die down.

We are so used to seeing horrible batsmen with no technique that we rate pitches based on current bats performances.

Exactly. Mitchell, Young and even Pant batted on same pitch and didnt have much problem.

What was different in those pitches?

I think we took NZ for granted as our focus moved completely towards Australia series and also NZ’s last two tours to India were very bad despite them having Williamson in their team.

We let the momentum shift towards NZ from first game and then the pitches that we played on after losing the test, the momentum of the game mattered a lot. We were always behind in the game, never really built extreme pressure and it is the combination of senior batters and senior spinners failing which costed us the series.

Also look at the venues. ONe of the most commonly used IPL venues something even new zealanders are familiar with. Wankhede, Chinnaswamy.  THey should have used places like Rajkot.

Because Ashwin and Jadeja till then had flopped and were getting outbowled..

Siraj and Bumrah were NPA's.

So having dustbowls was only option left for them.

But Rohit lost the toss both times lol...and Kiwis played spin better than us

It was a fine a** pitch indeed.  Ashwin even said he expected a raging Turner in Mumbai like in 2021.   But it was slow turn according to him (maybe it indicated he is finished or he is still delilu):phehe:

Not only that. We used to have Umesh and Shami giving us break throughs with older ball. A guy like Southee would not have survived more than few balls against Shami. Bumrah for some reason is massively off color against NZ. May be they play him well. Shami , Bhuvi are more effective against them.

Batting sucked even worse. That way we should have prepared pattas

They were not even good enough to last more than 2 or 3 overs. Rohit sharma even during short stay had 2 or 3 lives. Still he couldn't capitalize on it. When you don't put enough runs on the board, bowlers cannot make up for it. Not only that Rohit sharma's catching was horrendous. Also key fielding positions were not employed by Rohit. His captaincy for spinners was one of the worst i have seen. Even Kohli was better than this. MSD was atleast good for setting fields for spinners.  Having long on , long off right off the bat in the 2nd test was a cardinal sin. India was always playing catch up game with defensive mindset of Rohit. Rohit's defensive mindset was exposed many times even in LOIs. Thankfully some superstar performance saved his ass

Thing was batting was never going to match Kiwis on better tracks with NPA's like RoKo and lower middle order failing constantly which never used to happen.

In England series we saw reinforcements at correct time.   This time nothing of that sort happened and Batting unit was left brittle.

Bumrah didn't bowl a single ball to Southee till they had 100+ partnership.
