Yes if we did just better than 150 say 220-250 then Aussies would've got best of conditions.

That's why batting first was a bad decision. Australia isn't South Africa. Here if conditions are bad for batting on day one, they get easier to bat later. If conditions are good for batting on day one, they worsen overtime.

Overnight the wicket has  changed, their number 10 and 11 batted with considerable ease.

Grass dried out, moisture dried. Green grass became brown by day 2.  It is like lords test 2014. Pitch was green carpet on day one and dried out due to warm weather later on. We batted on day one and if not for brainfart batting by England against Ishant, they were cruising in fourth innings.

then how did grass dry out in one day

30 degree is enough to dry out the grass if not watered. Try to remember Lords test 2014.  That was much greener than this.

Don’t worry guys we will lose it tomorrow.. no trust in Lolhi to hold this **** up … no way Padikal is hanging around … Lyon will come back roaring ..

pant will hit out , Nitish ain’t doing the same thing twice ..

sundar will hit out or be meek .

I just hope 250 is good enough .. which is what I think we will end up giving them ..

this seems more closure to reality, we have seen this so many time on past.

Yeah this is my biggest worry. Need to get to 450 ideally to remove all doubt. It's very hard to chase that down no matter how flat the wicket gets .

Dint SA almost chased 450 against us …. I believe we should forget about a number and i wish we keep batting as long as possible. If we somehow survive all day tomorrow just keep batting day after as well unless bring down Australian 3 quicks to dust and destroy their player morals. This will create harakiri and set context for further matches.

Let 1 wkt fall and then see the real class of our batsmen .

This 172/0 can easily end at 300 AO and then Aus might fancy a 350 chase but as I said earlier, it's not just us but even the Aus batsmen are underperforming since the last year and they are in a decline so you never know

Regardless of what's 'safe' or enough, India should bat and bat and bat as long as they possibly can. Its not just about winning this test, its about putting miles into Aus bowlers legs.  We moan about Siraj's form, Harshit's viability, Shami's availability, and fairly so. But if one or 2 of Aussie's 3 pace bowlers have to be 'rested' or get injured, their dropoff is going to be as precipitous if not more.

And remember, we are essentially playing a 3 bowler attack this test - with the 3rd one a rookie, and a 2nd bowler off his prime color.  So we need all the runs we can get.

400 without lead would be nice. But I know I'm being greedy.

But then again, we have a very decent #batDeep this test....

They're not gonna chase 350. There's enough help for bowlers. Jaiswal & Rahul played extremely well and were also quite lucky. There were so many misses along with edges falling short of slip cordon. We'll win by 90-100 runs if we set Aus a target of 350.

With Head there, there is still a chance the guy plays a freak innings. Tbh wouldn't be entirely comfortable with a 350 target. 450 is another story, we would win the match barring a miracle.

600 - crush them while they're down :bike:

If no rains forecast for next 3 days, then I would want India to bat atleast 1.5 days. Its a long series and I dont mind injuries to Aussie bowlers

Aussies can chase 550 and by God they will.

It will take some doing. If they do, credit to them. But first at least bat long enough to give them to chase 550. Pant thought he needs to score 36 in 6 balls.
