Too many great moments to mention but the 149 at Edgbaston may be THE highlight 

 

More importantly though was his dedication and professionalism that filtered through to the rest of the team. IIRC ishant said he had never heard of body fat percentage until Virat told him. 

 

And for all his arrogance and even pettiness on the field , have only read good things about how he is off it

As much as I hated how he continued to be in the team despite poor record the last few years and how he would never let any youngsters into the team. He was still Indians best test captain.

He did his job extremely well for several years and was well compensated for it.

 

I am just glad they are not doing cringey stuff like a farewell test or 100 100 match etc.

More than his batting his captaincy had certain edge that was missing from MSD. THat is what i remember about him in Tests. As a test batsman he never had the second peak that all great test batsmen would find. I don't suppose he is going to find that peak after 5 years of struggle. So it is more than  a reasonable call.

I'll be honest, he didn't inspire the kind of affection that others in the past did, or even some his peers. Maybe I'm too 'old-school' for some of his antics, but over time, I recognized that whatever my personal 'discomfort' with some of his on-field stuff, it was a function of his total commitment and drive to win - something that he was singularly good at.  

 

I think of Virat as our 'Ponting' in many ways - punchy, abrasive, always ready for a scrap, and utterly lion-hearted when it came to the cauldron of competition.  The value he placed on test cricket finally won me over, and especially his tactical commitment to try and win with 5 bowlers. Loved that.  For me, my personal favorite moment of Virat will always be the 60 overs of hell we unleashed on England. That doesn't happen without his leadership, and is one of my favorite Team India moments in watching cricket since 1985.

 

Thank you Virat.  For everything.

Went to stadium a few time to watch him in tests over 5 days.

 

On TV you will never see the amount of energy needed in test cricket. To be the most energetic guy across all 5 days, I am going to miss him in test just for that reason. To give you an example, there were games which went till day 4 and 5 and I saw young players almost looking tired even when shining and passing the ball around to the bowler. Kohli looked like 17 year old on day 4 and 5 when you needed the most amount of energy on the morning or evening session of day 4 and 5, passing around the ball, talking and pumping the bowler up.

 

 

Probably didn’t do justice to his hardwork in test. But he has seen it all so he knows whats the best time to go.

He kept Test Cricket his priority. Kudos for taking it forward and hopefully younger generations can learn something from him.

Loved his captaincy era. We all like Aussies for their attitude and its only Virat who inculcated it in our team, looking every team in the eye even on away tours.

Until Adelaide 2020. By then, it seemed like he was being tuned out by the team, leading to the team coming together under Rahane's leadership.

More than anything, I appreciate two things about him: 

 

(1) His commitment to fitness.

(2) When he is on the field, he is 100% committed. He runs hard to chase the ball, throws his body to save runs, and shows exuberance in celebrating team-mates' successes. Some have said that the last point is for the cameras, but I am not ready to believe that. I feel it is genuine.

Nah Eng series in 2021 was also legendary. We'd have won if the series was completed or he came back as captain next year

It's was majorly fatso Sharma behind that. Anyway he just doesn't deserves the same accolades as Kohli. Kohli will be missed, where are Sharma and Pritika, good riddance.

Meh. These guys are well-compensated for their efforts. The whole "farewell" business is cringey.

Good call and saved his average plunging even further. He was a GOAT T20 batter till 2018, especially at his peak from 2014-2016, a very good ODI batter, and a decent Test batter.

some of these players who have given too much to cricket and also have played across all formats have been given enough accolades back from fans as well,  so they actually are reaching a point mentally where they don’t care about farewells and are content. If it was their last format may be then they could consider. But with one format still left for them, a thought of farewell right now is too overhwleming for these players now.
