Bumrah's reputation will be damaged unfortunately. He needs to heal and back to 100% fitness before NZ tour, can skip the home tests if necessary

What disappointing. Guy picked two fifers in the three tests he played at 26. In the same games, Siraj averages 61. Other bowlers couldn't support him in those games isn't his fault.

Bumrah has been biggest disappointment.On paper his figures look good but if you look closer, it had no effect on the outcomes.

 

First test while defending the total he was a complete non factor.If you are number 1 bowler you should be able to do lot better.

 

Look at Siraj in last test, he kept the match in hand in both innings.

Lot of difference in pitches in 1st Test and last Test.

I just thought of another one:

 

Most under-rated knock of the series by an Indian player:

Karun Nair's 57 in the first innings of the 5th match. The top order had been knocked back for cheap, but he cobbled together some good partnerships to get the score to a respectable one. Under the circumstances, it was invaluable and worth remembering.

Under-rated. But had Washington batted in that spot he would have made the same. I still think they shoud have sat Sai or Karun out. We luckily did not see Siraj holding on to his hammie. End justified the means? I am not sure here. It is purely because we are lucky Siraj did not pick up an injury. And he was able ot bowl at 145k on the last day of series

Difference is In the matches Bumrah picked fifers, no other bowler supported him. One bowler alone can't win you test matches. In the matches, India won, at least two bowlers performed together. Akashdeep at Edgebaston along with Siraj and Siraj along with Prasidh at Oval. And still we could have won lords test had batsmen batted a bit better. 

 

Don't lose logical thinking between the hate campaign going against Bumrah.

 

For example look at Lords first innings. Bumrah picked 5/72. What others did? 5 wickets for 313. England was able to score 387.

Unfair on Jurel. I thought his keeping in Oval was very good, and clutch. Also handy with the bat.

Biggest reality check to all of whom were saying and dreading how we will take 20 wickets minus Bumrah also got served in this series. Tbh this after BGT and the first test is not something anyone would have ever expected.

From this squad, if we look at the ceiling of the below 35 players,

 

ATG potential (if not already there): Bumrah, Pant, Jaiswal, Washi (unpopular opinion, but for me benchmark for a spin AR is Jadeja)

 

Country great: Gill, Siraj

 

Good, servicable for next 3-4 years: KL, Akashdeep

 

High potential but need more time to judge: Jurel, Sai, Reddy

 

Then we have Sarfu, Shreyas, Rana, Axar, Tilak sitting outside. Kuldeep's potential is limitless but is sidelined by every TM, for me the best spinning talent since Warne. 

 

Among these guys, KL is 33, Bumrah and Siraj are 31, rest all below 30, most of them in mid 20s. If we get a couple of quality young quicks, we have the ingredients to build a world beating side, and India's greatest ever at least. Among SENA teams, only NZ has these many exciting young talents. While they are still behind (especially in batting, spin, keeping), their emerging pace stocks are world class, much more comfortably placed than us.

This knock by Pant is legit one of the top 3/4 knocks ever played by an Indian.
