Tendulkar is still India's best batsman ever

Ofcourse in terms of pure batsmanship, range, longevity he is still the best.  When we talk about singlehanded wins Kohli is not quiet far off.  Even when Tendulkar was in his peak we did find Sehwag to be better than Tendu in some areas. We found Laxman/Dravid to be better than Sachin in some areas. Similarly Kohli is found to be better than Tendu in some areas. All said and done nothing is more satisfying than winning a match. Kohli has been pulling off magic after magic while chasing. Even at the peak of powers i would not have expected Sachin to pull of such chases.

Yes as of today

But Kohli is already a bigger and better match winner in LOI's (50 over + T20)

And to me Dravid was a better match winner in Test cricket

No, Tendulkar much better in 50 over's and never really played T20's so you can't compare.

Tendulkar smacked 175 against Aus in a losing cause after playing for 20 odd years.Lets wait till 20 and then compare.Longevity has to be a factor when defining a player.

Sachin never had the finishing skill which Kohli has and it is not a knock on Sachin but we are talking about the best chaser in history of the cricket.

Kohli walks into all time playing eleven in odis as the only undisputed batsman purely on his chasing skills, There is no one in history who is better in chasing than him, we can argue about every other batsmen including Sachin and Richards but not him.

Kohli has long long way to go just to be mentioned amongst Tendulkar.

I can understand fans getting excited, but plenty of idiot pundits & ex-cricketers making lame comparisons.

Let's put aside Tendulkar's Test performance aside (monumental), Tendulkar is greatest ODI batsmen.

Not to take digs at Kohli, but Tendulkar's ODI World Cup record is incredible, Kohli went missing in 2015 World Cup.

And Tendu's record as an opener (his prime position) is phenomenal, batting first or chasing.

Run chases in LOI's is one area where Kohli has surpassed Sachin. His record while setting a target isn't that great even in LOI's. When it comes to tests, it's safe to say that Kohli's current record is average at best.

So yes, Sachin is still by far the best Indian batsman. But, Kohli is still very young and he has a great shot at ending up as the best Indian batsman of all time.

For Ind:

  • Greatest test opening batsman = Gavaskar
  • Greatest test impact batsman = Sehwag
  • Greatest test middle order batsman = Tendulkar
  • Greatest LOI opener = Tendulkar
  • Greatest LOI chaser = Kohli
  • Greatest LOI finisher = Dhoni

PS For World:

  • Tests - Bradman (overall), post 60s - Sobers
  • LOIs - Richards

@OP, Why so much insecurity about Tendulkar? What's the compulsion to announce to all and sundry that Tendulkar is the greatest? Tendulkar being the greatest may be your opinion but others may have a different view. As far as I'm concerned Tendulkar comes after Gavskar as a batsman and after Gavaskar and Kapil as the greatest Indian cricketer. In terms of LOIs, I put Dhoni and Kohli ahead of Tendulkar.

Then you'd be completely and utterly incorrect.
