May be it's too early to say that but i have started seeing the signs from 3rd test (against Nz).

Pitch certainly helped pace bowlers in the first ODI but there were several occasions in the past where he didn't took advantage of that....

Even his fielding was top class.....i get the feeling that he is enjoying the game of cricket more now than ever before.

If he discovers himself, he can be a amazing bowler

As  I  had posted in  the Speed and performance Thread....the commentators were showcasing the change in bowling action of Umesh Yadav which is resulting in more accuracy.  He is now looking in the direction of the stumps at the point of delivery instead of his head falling away.

Yadav has been bowling much more accurately from the South Africa test series 2015.

I had posted a list of his improved ER ( Economy Rate ) in test matches starting from that series too.

He has to improve his bouncer though and increase its frequency too.   Also, while bowling inswingers, he is often targeting the leg stump and he should change that to targeting the top of off stump.  If he wants to bowl at the death then his yorkers need improvement.

This is how he has fared in tests starting from the SA series 2015.  Bowling average of 27  in this period now compared to 36 overall.

If he can sustain his accuracy, it will be great news for  Indian cricket as Umesh  has the pace and movement.

Its good that Umesh has improved his accuracy. But Shami, Bumrah and BK are much better than Umesh in ODI's and are our frontline pacers. Umesh should only be selected when other pacers are injured. Umesh should be playing test matches for now.

Umesh Yadav is still a  test bowler and  not ideal for ODIs.

Lets not forget Yadav played  cruical roles and the last champions trophy and was our higghest wicket taker at the wc.

Can you be a  top ODI  pacer without the ability to bowl yorkers with consistency  ?

His wicket taking ability was never in doubt but his consistency is.

He will be brilliant in one ODI tournament  and totally  lost in the next two.

Yes because you dont have to bowl him at the the death all the time like steyn he has still done pretty well without a good yorker.

Whilist i agree consistency is an issue, he has done well in 2 tournments which i value way more than bilateral series, so dont think u can say he will be lost.

Never heard commies or noticed this about Umesh. Thought this is very basic thing a bowling coach will tell you. For young icfers who play cricket

1. Follow through to gain couple of miles in speed

2. Eyes should look at exact location where you want to land the ball at the time ball is being realeased from your grip.

Umesh was superb in WC 15, with 18 wickets from 8 matches  at an average of  17.8  and ER of 4.9

In CT 13, he took  4 wickets from  5 matches  at an average of 49  and ER of 5.5.

After the WC, he has averaged 45 ,  41  and 49  in the 3 series he has played  with ERs  of 6.8 to 7.5.  This is where he needs to improve in terms of realizing his potential with more consistency.

He needs to hold on to his new found accuracy and  practice bowling yorkers if he has to become a regular in ODIs.

There are so many international cricketers who do not follow the basics of crciket

Agree, but this is like cardinal sin of cricket bowling. Its akin to batsman not watching the ball at the time of impact to to bat. This should be fixed by coaches at school level only.

Just watch the WI batters and see how many times they do not watch the ball, especially while facing bouncers.

Some JAFFA's bowled by Umesh in recent times-

Ball that got Latham LBW in the third Test match was a 145k ball and from around the wicket - kind of an unplayable ball to get one of the BEST

New Zealand batter OUT..latham looks comfortable against indian Pacers and is scoring regularly against INDIA.

Umesh bowled another JAFFA to Nesham , a bounce ball which missed a NICK.

Recently he clean bowled West indian T 20 Captain Braithwaite in a test match of the first ball.. it was a Jaffa...very fast Yorker.

these balls are some Rare deliveries that can get ANY Batsman in the world Out and that's why I have called them Umesh's Jaffa's.

ONe bowl which I remember as a clear Jaffa from Sreesanth was when he got the Aouth African all rounder to nick the bouncer...I consider that as one of the most difficult balls bowled.

even Ross Taylor got a ball which bounced from Good length to catch his snick.

Still he continues to bowl some rubbish on the legstump- I still will prefer to keep him in the 11 ahead of Bhuvi or even Ishant.

I loved the attack yesterday- bumrah umesh and hardik...all 3 r my favourites and dhwal sitting out.

I could not believe my eyes seeing hardik bowling 144k...

though I agree that Umesh is a test bowler but an attacking pacer like umesh is most useful in ODI too.

umesh could have got 3 wickets yesterday had jadhav held that easy catch- believing he taking 3 wickets in a 6 over spell.. he had actually finished the new Zealand innings in his first spell itself.

pandya also got 3 wickets thanks to an unbelievable catch by Umesh- actually it was a hard hit and many fielders would not have tried.

if William son, taylor and Guptill will fail - newzealand will surely loose.

neesham southee latham and even Anderson wont win them ODI matches as they will give opportunities to get OUT.

Umesh did perform well in an odi series against west indies too and even in his debut match he got some wickets due to SHEER PACE of 147k and 149k...he was tooo FAST

If we had a proper bowling coach, they could have fixed the technical issue in Umesh's run-up+delivery much earlier. He was our bowler with the most potential when he came in, yet they wasted so many years of his career before finding a glitch in his action?
