Quality English batsman, Ian Bell?
Attacking Kevin Pietersen?

England omitting them. Gary Ballance is no Bell.

NO...can't go back to TTF....England has some exciting prospects upcoming and in the team....this is the reason why we keep going back to GG,Yuvi etc.

A step in the right direction and we can learn from it

English players are rated by how they perform in Ashes. India specialists are not needed. They don't lose like SA/Aus in India. Even in 2001/2008 they had a very good performance. Best was in 2012. Stokes/MoAl can do much better on Innings1 even on Spin pitches. Stokes is a gun player.

Why don't you have an opinion on things instead of asking others all the time.

So, what do YOU think? Do YOU think it was a bad idea to drop Bell and why?

Yes and hence I created the thread ! Bell and KP would have indeed added power to Eng lineup.

Where did you mention that Bell shouldn't have been dropped. You merely asked others if it was a mistake.

And what are your reasons? What's Bell form like before he was dropped? Did he do well really well in India before? Some stats may be? What's his current form at FC level?

And KP ... please .... Everybody knows ECB doesn't want KP in their set up .. He wasn't dropped on form or ability. So, no point discussing about him.

I don't have the numbers but Bell's FC form last season was poor. Doubt he'd have done anything to halt the collapse in either innings. He was always ready to start or continue a collapse himself.

The only former England player who is still playing that I'd have back is Trott, but he has made it clear his international retirement is final.

He/she/it doesnt do that. He/she/it expect others to go on cricnfo and look up the stats for him/her/it.

England selectors are not clueless like Indian selectors who bring back finished cricketers into the team. They have done very well in giving their young players like Hameed, Duckett and Ansari chances. Even if they fail, they will still learn from this experience.

Unlike Indian selectors who brought back Gambhir who has no future in international cricket.

But KP ? imagine him behind Cook and Root. I am sure that is a loss.

Loss surely but KP even though is a brilliant player, talks a bit too much. England players didn't like such attitude and he was dropped. KP needed a captain like Dhoni to support him. Strauss and Cook are not those kind.  Cook and Strauss both are wannabe good babies of ECB. Heck, even if KP was in South Africa, I am sure someone like AB would have supported him and kept him calm.  But KP was too blunt and at times naive and hot head and hence was dropped rightly since he was tryig to break the team. No one is bigger than the team. He could not adjust to English cricket team's culture.

Ian Bell is a classy player and has excelled in different environments. He should be picked again in the team, but it seems like his form in FC is also pretty poor, so might not be the best timing to get him back.

I think they are missing James Taylor now more than ever. He was their Rahane with more consistency and was no mug against spin. A top order of Cook, Hameed, Root, Taylor, Stokes, Bairstow would've been an envious one.
