Sachin, Dravid want India to play Champions Trophy

Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar are among a group of 12 former cricketers who want India to play the upcoming Champions Trophy in England.

All the players ESPNcricinfo contacted - Tendulkar, Dravid, Zaheer Khan, Gundappa Viswanath, Sandeep Patil, Sanjay Manjrekar, Aakash Chopra, Ajit Agarkar, Venkatesh Prasad, Saba Karim, Murali Kartik, and Deep Dasgupta - were unanimous in their opinion that India should attempt to defend the Champions Trophy title that they won in 2013.

I have a small sample size myself like most of you guys. My colleagues, my relatives, friends etc none of them, not a single person wants us to play in CT. BCCI should go ahead and ignore the stupid CoA because janata janardhan is totally behind them. Except a few traitors and pseudo intellectuals, Indian public demands that we boycott CT unless the damage done w.r.t ICC finances is overturned.

ESPNCricinfo - pissing their pants since they have bought cricket rights for Americas/Caribbeans. Now they are trying to convince their major readers/commenters (Indians) to side with them.

No.  I don't agree.   Every board is trying to get maximum revenue from the ICC.  Why should the BCCI who represent the country and the market that generates 70% + of that revenue, not get the 20% that its asking for?   Look, I don't love the BCCI - most Indian fans don't.  But the current scenario is not about BCCI being greedy - its about the ECB staging a political power grab at a time when BCCI is internally devastated due to the Supreme court mandate - almost 100% of their staff with the experience and knowledge to counter the ECB powergrab have been pushed out of office - not just the corrupt ones - ALL of them.   Most due to term limit restrictions, age restrictions etc.   

 

India subsidizes all the other cricket boards' budgets - either directly through overseas tours, or indirectly, as the largest source of ICC revenue.  Even if they get the amount they are asking for, they would still be subsidizing them.   I know non-Indian cricket fans like to pretend that this is not true, but it just is.

1, BCCI provides 70-80% of revenue, ICC wants it to take a share cut from 20.3% to 15% but is willing to make it 18% if BCCI agrees, as if its ICC's to offer.

 

2, BCCI tells ICC lets not decide now let us play CT and then discuss this, ICC tells them no you have to decide now my way or highway.

 

3, BCCI has no option but to safeguard its self interest and the interest of its participating state associations who all will have to take a 50% cut in their own shares. This would mean even lesser planned expenditure per facility per state association per fan. 

 

BCCI is not greedy by ICC is.

Also important is the fact that media outlets like Cricinfo have a vested monetary interest in ensuring that India plays in such tournaments, their entire rozi roti is dependent on Indian traffic. So they'd spin every story in a manner to further their own interest.
