mancalledsting
Sunil Gavaskar is possibly my favourite cricketer of all time and I respect him immensely. Sadly, and I say this with a heavy heart, he does not possess the objectivity required to make informed decisions regarding the future of certain aspects of the game in India. He played and succeeded in test cricket and is an ATG in that format. Going forward it would serve Indian cricket better if we only took into account his views on test cricket, but not on the other formats. His backing of Rahane is wrong on so many levels. The guy is hanging on to his ODI spot by the skin of his teeth (that due to a low strike rate- nothing else) and Sunny is extolling his virtues in the t20 format. A format where high strike rate is paramount! What makes it even worse, is that he's promoting Rahane over KL Rahul (who has been our best t20 batsmen over the past year) and not Rohit Sharma (can't remember the last time he made a telling t20 contribution at the international level). rahulrulezz
I am sick of gavaskar supporting this guy in all his interviews. Rahane has played so many odi and yet doesn't have a strike rate in 80s, played two T20 world cups yet can't strike above 120. I am sick of this Mumbai lobby. Guys like Krunal Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer who can strike above 125 are our future. SecondSlip, Gollum and RAZPOR 3 Link to comment

sandeep
Old man is being quite shameless in pushing Rahane. I love Jinxy, but he does not belong in a T20 squad. SMG is being intellectually dishonest here. And dragging young Rahul into this is so distasteful. I respect SMG a lot for his achievements as a player. And he's a smart analyst when he wants to be. But too often he slips into the old Indian Uncle role and caters to his inner biases. Stop giving Bombay a bad name Sunil-chacha!!! You and Manju both. Gollum 1 Link to comment

Silva
Rahane has played in 82 more limited overs matches than rahul and has scored only one more century. Yet it was rahul that had to give up his main position as opener in odis and was forced into the middle order where he doesnt play even in domestic cricket if im not mistaken. But that isnt enough for gavaskar he thinks rahul should be dropped from the squad to accommodate Rahane. Just ridiculous. mancalledsting 1 Link to comment

While "scoring a century" is not a fair metric to judge an ODI player, especially when Rahane was dumped into the middle order - a role he's as much of a misfit for, as was Dravid. And your claim that Dravid had to "give up his opener's position" is as ridiculous as Gavaskar asking for Rahane in the T20 team. Link to comment
