South Africa series could make or break pujara

I like the guy and feel he can deliver overseas but no doubts his brilliant home record masks his failures overseas

while others like Rohit and Dhawan get slaughtered for scoring runs only test runs at home ( in white ball cricket they do well overseas) . Pujara seems to slide from attention . Seems like double standard on icf ?

but this series is massive for pujara and if flunks the knives will sharpen .

A failure for Pujara in this series does not mean much. He already had a good series earlier. Pujara could do well in most of the series abroad though in the coming months.

Pujara outbatted Kohli in 2 out of the 4 overseas tours of 2013-15 (SA, Eng), so don't know what OP is talking about.

Tbf in SA they were dead even. He did out-perform him in SL with his 145* in the series decider.

+1

Fact is Pujara may not have performed so far in overseas conditions, but he has been doing so well at home and had an extraordinary innings in Sri Lanka. Pujara might produce goods in the upcoming overseas tours for all we know.

Even if he does not, he is still very valuable for his contributions in home conditions. Wins are wins even if at home or away. Home test wins also do not come cheap.

Pujara is the last test batsman that one should be worried about as far as test cricket is concerned.

In no way saying axe pujara

but fact is he has not delivered away like he does at home , similar to a lot of players who get destroyed for same stuff

ashwin and jadeja regularly attacked on icf for not doing it away from home as well as they do at home . In fact many say drop them and play all kinds of spinners . But no one says drop pujara . Double standards?

Pujara played well in South Africa and was rewarded, he was also ok in England but unrewarded. Admit he was horrible in NZ and Aus. Many put the slide in form down to his flirtation with IPL/LOIs. Given his county stints the point is that he's taken every step to improve and therefore deserves a long rope

It’s make or break for Kohli, Kohli Test record has always been questioned, especially in pressure situations, I can’t recall any innings Kohli played under pressure leading to a win

Pujara and Rahane played several of these defining innings

Kohli was mesmerising on bouncy tracks in oz .

Kohli stood out head and shoulders among his peers but those were pretty placid tracks.

Pujara’s problem is not loose technique or weakness....he goes into a rut....activates a total survival mode and doesn’t cash in on even loose deliveries...1 good delivery out of no where and his battle and struggle till then becomes meaningless.

Vijay can be like that too but Vijay knows his strengths a little better  and plays % cricket much better.

Sounds like what Majerekar did with his whole career....one f**king delivering spoiling the whole efforts

O come it’s oz. he made them look placid . Destroyed Johnson , hooking and lullaby no the fastest bowler of our era . Rahane also did

superb stuff on classic Aussie pitches . What more can a man do lol

That's because we have better alternatives for Dhawan, but Pujara is the only contender for the no. 3 slot. However, he will be criticised if he flops in SA. So it's not double standards. Just wanting to play the best team we have to maximize the chances of winning.

BS, unnecessary twist of narrative by OP to save others. Pujara is the only player apart from the captain who has his name jotted down in the Test playing XI. He is head and shoulders above everyone in the team and should be persisted throughout the away tours. Non glamourous guy who plays old fashioned test cricket and does dirty work for the team is exactly what our team need.

I don't get it , every one knows pujara has to prove himslelf . Rahane has to do better on spinning tracks . Virat needs to show up more often when the going gets tough .

The question everyone is asking is , why are we dropping a young batsmen like kl who in his short career has scored home/away but also played a few great knocks when the team needed it and worse to accommodate players like rohit and dhawan ?

I was merely pointing out double standard of the icf mob

Pujara is a super disciplined player. One thing you cannot complain about Pujara is lack of discipline. He just has to get the balance right. At times putting away bad balls is good for you. You can force the opposition on the defensive. All defense no strokes will keep him in constant pressure. If you are on the defensive all the time , opposition will be on the offensive all the time. Other than that there is no reason why he cannot do well there.
