coffee_rules Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 We should aim for at least 250 to feel safe to defend in the 4th innings on this pitch. 11 and 10 wickets falling in D1 and D2. India is only slightly ahead in the test now. I think if we set a target between 250 - 300 is a good winnable one. Although even 150-200 seems winnable, but in home conditions, SA batsmen can take more risks and get 150-200. One of Rahul/Vijay should continue to play a longer innings tomorrow. sarcastic 1
sarcastic Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I will feel pretty safe if the target is over 250 and in the range of 275ish. Less than 200 may be (may be) sufficient but until the last wicket falls, I will not hing too much hope. Between 200 and 275, every run means more and more guarantee and then it becomes unchaseable I would think. But getting 230 runs tomorrow with the remaining wickets is a real real challenge. Not sure we can achieve that.
Cricketics Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 India should look to get 300. I think De Villiers will come out firing like he did in the first test first session when they were 3 down early. With Amla back in form, kind of, they can chase our total down if its about 230ish. We must attack when we are batting tomorrow after first session. Not just stand there and say "Aa Bal Mujhe Maar" We need 315.
jf1gp_1 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Would love a 250run lead but who and how will we get it
coffee_rules Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 We got to 180 on D1, It will be too much to expect India to reach 300 when they have done it only once in the series on a pitch where batting was easier. They should not lose wickets in a heap, each batsmen should get about 20 runs min to reach about 250 which is a safe target.
adi B Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 250 would be great but India will get bowled out inside 200
Gollum Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Anything between 200 to 375. Never underestimate the chewtiyapa of our fielders, to make up for law of averages they may drop 11 catches in the 4th innings, essentially we may need to get them all out twice to win the match. Rightarmfast, adi B and Forever Indian 2 1
Laaloo Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Need to avoid that collapse. Hopefully we keep the scoreboard ticking. Can't get into a rut and collapse.
coffee_rules Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 Monga says.."The Wanderers Test is now a one-innings shootout on a treacherous surface, and India have their noses well ahead, ending day two 42 ahead with nine wickets in hand. " I don't think we are well ahead on end of D2. We are slightly ahead, hence they were able to bat out the day like they did.
maniac Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 250 and we have it in the bag 200 and we have are the favorites 180+ can make a game out of it >180 and we lose
Tattieboy Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 235 Average 4th innings score at wanderers is 207
Deleted_User_1 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 If they bowl well in the 4th inning, then anything 250+ should be safe.
BeautifulGame Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 250 definitely. Anything over 220 , will consider us favourites. 180-220 It's Even Stevens Less than 180 - SA favourite
maniac Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 180+ will make it mushkil for South Africa but definitely not difficult. 250 even Kapil Paaji will agree that we will be the favorites
sandeep Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) Anything below 260 is SA's game to lose. India's best chance to set up the game was in the first innings. I just hope Pandya can make amends with both bat and ball. Else his dismissal could yet prove to be the pivotal moment. Edited January 25, 2018 by sandeep
