KL Rahul has both the highest strike-rate and the  highest average in the history of India's T20I cricket  ( among batters with 200 plus runs )    ... but is not getting a game as a back-up even.

 

His exclusion from the team can't be based on cricketing reasons.

on one hand we had players like Rahul Dravid encouraging younger players to take part in t20 world cup of 2007 and on the other we have the same set of players playing even after 11 years without giving a chance to next generation... The likes of Dhoni/Rohit/Karthik should not be playing t20

It can't be more obvious than this. He is not a player for whom there can be any cricketing justification for exclusion. 

 

It's just plain and simple team policy being followed against one specific player.

Rahul needs to bat at 4 for KXIP and prove his point. There is no use even if he performs as an opener in IPL...he will always be a back-up opener.

 

Punjab can open with Mayank and Finch/Gayle.

Rahul has nothing to prove. If having best numbers can't get you into team over 7th, 8th choice players, then no amount of performance can. 

 

Backup opener is just a weak theory to fool public.

When Bhuvi was dropped for Ishant, there was lot of noise for that. But still there was some logic in it, no matter how flawed it may be.

He was playing Vijay Hazare trophy a couple of weeks ago. He is fit.
