Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli usually finish matches by themselves, playing the bulk of the innings(especially in ODIs) so the chances taht Raina, Pandey, et al get exposed in a bilateral series is less. The same was the case with Rahane and Yuvraj. These guys hardly ever came to bat, so team management hardly got a look at how unfit they were for the middle order. UrmiSinhaRay and Switchblade 2

However, Indian Cricket is currently blessed with younger and fitter players with a strong work ethic.
