Why haven't Sarfaraz Khan & Unmukt Chand graduated to the next level?

After such promising starts to their careers at the U19 level, it’s sad to see what’s happened to these 2 youngsters. I know they're young but after a few years, you would expect them to be much better than they were when they started. They might even be worse now sadly.

Why haven't they graduated to the next level like Rishabh Pant & Prithvi Shaw have?

Because they aren't that good.  

 

It aint rocket science.  If a player has what it takes, he will find ways to execute and perform.  Issues and challenges are for everyone, the good ones overcome them, the not so good, wither away.

I am not sure if these two were in contention for a spot in tests. Were they?

Do you still believe that they can turn it around considering that they still have age on their side?

Sarfaraz is just 20 and has just come back from injury during the IPL.  Missed whole FC season last year. He has the talent to do well as he plays FC season this year.

I am generally asking. 

Sarfaraz, Pant, Kishan & Sundar were all teammates at the U19 World Cup just 2 years ago. Sarfaraz was our best batsman in that tournament by miles but the latter 3 have raced ahead of him for the senior team. 

Why do you think he has fallen behind?

Unlikely.  Chand, because his time has come and gone, and he's not going to be able to put up GOAT level multiple Ranji seasons, which is what it will take to get into the national team.

 

Sarfraz?  He's a lower order hitter who plays a high risk game and is unlikely to be able to put together the big cumulative stats that get you selected for the big-time.  

 

Competition for Batsmen in India is tougher than getting into IIT.  times a million.

Either of them would have played more than 15 international games if they were eligible to play for greenbros.  Such is the drought of decent batsmen in the land of the 'pure'.

0 - Surprisingly we won it . Its almost like the forgotten batch. I blame it on IPL as well. we were all watching IPL as criteria for the senior team.

I remember Chama Milind and Monu kumar in UAE , bowling like Mavi & Nagarkoti. But they just fell off the radar. 

 

I am guessing somebody noticed the trend in 2012  and started in 2014 again.

I am very impressed with abhishek sharma.. good middle order batsman and a very decent offspinner ... would like to see him in the team in couple of years.

I don’t think Sarfraz will make it into Int team, in last IPL he still looks overweight and slow in the field

 

Chand’s recent domestic Performances have been below par...but never know...not long ago Rayudu was the next big thing but faded away then moved to different Ranji state, performed well, and made his comeback into India

maybe Chand should look for move away from Delhi

Sarfaraz is a freak, he has most talent I have seen in a young batter, needs to be backed and will win us games on his own.

Chand is finding feet n doing well let's see what happens this season.

Unmukt I am guessing will not be around even on the FC circuit very long. Just one of those guys who was ahead of his peers as a teenager, but as they matured, he got left behind. Not the first time that has happened. And cricket is not the only place in life that happens. Child and teen prodigies get left behind more often than they burn out. 

 

As for Sarfaraz...I've never seen the talent others see in him. Like a poor man's Kaluwitharana. A very poor man's Kalu. And Kalu was ordinary. Sarfaraz cute and gimmicky little scooping of full deliveries over the keepers head might come off in 1 in 5 IPL games. Sooner or later he'll get his head knocked off if he tries that against quality international bowling. He is no Dilshan.

I dont know what ICFers saw in sarfaraz that he is still remembered to this day...

I have never seen him playing assuredly be in two u19 wcs or ipl. He just had cheeky shots thats it.

Sarfaraz is massively over-rated. Don't think he'll be wearing an Indian shirt again, maybe in T20s.

Chand, just has not delivered, has not adapted, and so many others have got into contention, he probably won't be considered again unless he averages 100+ across a season
