Will look forward to him finishing test chases for India, like the one he missed in Southampton. His footwork is a bit shoddy as keeper. The thing is he is 21. Gilchrist was a late bloomer, considering that, pant could become the greatest keeper batsman in the history of the game. Let's hope for that. This game wasnt a sure shot victory without pant 159. Vihari got out early today. We were still far from 350. Pujara and pant partnership was crucial. raki05 1 Link to comment

Though he is scoring runs, but need to find a better replacement WK post Dhoni retirement in ODI's Agreed Pant has to work on his keeping skills. But seriously it isn't very bad. He is still better than DK and Pappu who are much experienced keepers now. Cricbuzz is worst when it comes to Thalaiva blind worshipping. Nikhil_cric
Pants keeping is a little suspect no doubt but even hardcore dhoni fans should remember that his keeping was very ungainly early in his career. Besides dhoni never kept well to pacers. Not even at his peak. Batting was the only reason dhoni became the first choice keeper. It would be the ultimate hypocrisy if dhoni fans opposed pant's inclusion because his keeping isn't sharp enough . Adi BB, raki05 and Real McCoy 3 Link to comment

Dhoni is one of the best keepers the world has ever seen - the only Indian who is comparable to him is Kirmani. Muloghonto
That being said, Pant's wicketkeeping is improving, so is his batting. His ability to play shots and score quickfire runs is not in doubt, his ability to grind a 65 not out off off 120 balls, coming in when the team is 150/5 is the real issue. he is showing progress in both counts. But it'd be tough for him to get to the level of keeping that Dhoni, Mongia or Kirmani showed, especially keeping to spinners - Indian domestic circuit sucks for spinners and as such we can see it in the new generation of keepers like Pant or Kishan - they don't have the basics right for keeping to spinners and it'd be tough for a 20 year old to correct basic keeping action quickly enough to make it second nature and be a worldclass keeper at it. Not even close. Dhoni was streets ahead of Pant when he first came in. Don't know about similar age because Dhoni was playing domestic at age 20 and hardly anyone here had seen him back then. But he still was far, far ahead of where Pant is right now. He kept really well to Kumble in 2007, pretty much *the* hardest bowler to keep to during that era ( this is also what exgaggerated Parthiv's initial failures). Adi BB
Msd was a decent batsman/keeper,the best in India but not a legend .players are so easily termed as legends,"ATGs" these days without even doing much . You might be better than the rest of the crap in the country but there's certainly a parameter to be called a legend ,you have to earn that status not granted! Pant is looking great and hopefully contributes to more Indian wins ,just needs to polish his keeping skills speedheat, raki05 and Laaloo 3 Link to comment

Not really, Dhoni was more like a part time wicket keeper when he was first picked. And Dhoni didn't debut in 2007 but 2004. Adi BB
People have short memories ,when dhoni came in and even from his domestic days ,his keeping was bang average and his method of catching waa always under question "crocodile method" but he improved gradually . His keeping against the moving ball was still average Number, Laaloo and raki05 3 Link to comment
