Sanjay Manjrekar: "Pant depends too much on the big shot to get out of a tight corner."

I saw highlights on reddit,i am more convinced than ever that Pant will never be a good ODI player.he has no real feel for the game like Kohli, all he has big hoicks on the leg side.

He has 1st gear and 6th gear lol no 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th gear.  He could come in to the side only as a keeper whose wicket we don't really have to value as much as specialist batsman's wicket.

Why is everyone hell bent of making Pant into Kohli. We don't want another Kohli in team, we need a Pant who will go bonkers from ball one that will be his job.

He is good enough to score 100s in England and Australia in tests which I don't think any Indian WK has done. So let him play his natural game and leave him alone. India not having no4  is not his fault.

He is more like Andre Russell who tries to hit every ball after spending time. He can walk in at 5 not so late as well. He has some starting trouble.

Slight difference there, as he was comparing Pant with Gilchrist i had to bring in tests here,

While Russel is a complete or out and out hack ,Pant being a good test player and  a genuine entertainer in lois is very much close to be called complete batsman across formats

Why you guys seem to be in a Pant rejecting spree??

Only a few games ago Manjrekar was saying that Rayadu has done enough for the number 4 spot and should be left alone. Now he remains unconvinced.

His fickleness makes him a good potential ICF poster.

Honestly you cannot take side of any player currently. Every bloody batsman is inconsistent.

Nobody is rejecting him. You should play him down the order in a 50 over game. We don't have many backend hitters where he can be useful. In a 50 over game you have so many balls. So same madness in T20 cannot be used there.

If someone can play patient game against England in England in test matches and score a century while chasing, surely he has it in him to play other shots in 50 overs too and not just rely on aerial shots. Pant needs just the "game time" in ODI cricket. That won't happen unfortunately until the World Cup is fully done as even if he is part of the World Cup, his slot won't be stable. You give him proper run and you will see how well he can do.

He has improved heaps when coming in the lower order in test matches. No reason he can't do the same in Odi's batting in top order or middle order.

He has lot of spunk. HE is not timid. Fearless attitude. But him, Agarwal, Gill, Shaw will form the core of India's future batting. Insta boy Rahul lost his focus, developed bad habits, got worse and worse. Kohli for all his off field activity never lost the edge in his game. He kept on improving.
