This is still not Kohli’s team unlike the Test unit. How can a captain, who looks far more assured in Tests (tougher format), look so woeful in LOIs. While Kohli should be blamed for prostration before Dhoni, what to say of Dhoni. In his own days as captain, that joker would not let a single senior player, each of them ATGs by then, interfere with his decisions. Here he is, shamelessly hogging limelight (only when we win) while Kohli fields in the deep. When Kohli does eventually get sacked as LOI captain after the WC, he would rue his decision of showing blind faith in Dhoni as the biggest mistake of his captaincy career. Test team is even worse in terms of player development . Hes equally bad in Tests Laaloo 1 Link to comment

prasen82
Just feel that they did not allow anybody an extended run lest we see how capable the younger batsman are when pitted against dhoni, Rohit and dhawan. Mayank did extremely well, vihari was good, Shankar was revelation in 2nd avatar, pant was phenomenal in tests . Dhawan - downhill Rahane - downhill Dhoni- nadir Rohit - so so Link to comment
diehardpacer
To bring newbies, drop oldies first. Rohit,Dhawan & Dhoni have too much power & can't be dropped. Rayudud has the backbone of MSK Prasad . The bowling unit has transformed under Kohli. So,he does know what he is doing in that aspect. The batting is in shambles due to petty politics of selectors & CSK Lobby. Edited March 20, 2019 by diehardpacer Link to comment

The Australia series win happened despite, not because of Kohli's captaincy. The player who he nearly destroyed (Pujara) was the difference maker in the series. Link to comment

Rohit was given lifeline by Dhoni. Despite his inconsistency, Dhoni kept harping on how big a match winner he could be. Once he turned opener, Rohit's luck turned around. He was already a successful ODI player by the time Kohli took over as captain. Link to comment
Clarke
This isn't just a Kohli thing, he can be held responsible for the present but the rot started much earlier. For limited overs: Rohit started playing long back & got umpteen chances to settle down. Dhawan made the opening slot his own. ICF's wonderboy Rahul got chances in all formats but was poor in middle order. Dhoni can't be budged. The remaining 1-2 slots weren't taken up with long term planning in mind. That has been true post Raina & Yuvi's end of form which have been years into the making but we never moved on. This culture of carrying baggage needs to change and has to start with the washerman. I'm not a fan of Pant's keeping but there had to be alternatives tried 2 years back. Edited March 24, 2019 by Clarke Link to comment

kubrickian
There is only one slot available for a new batsman, the No.4 slot. Dhawan has been going through bad form but his track record in ICC tournaments is phenomenal and he is worth persisting with. KL Rahul was given chances at No.4 but he blew them. Rayudu has done well in that position whenever he got picked. Kedhar Jadhav has done a good job as a middle order hitter/finisher at 5 and also can chip in with some overs. Not many chances were given to others. Link to comment

India won 75 % of ODI matches under him in 2018 including series in Australia and South Africa(5-1) where we used to get whitewashed repeatedly and ended as best team of the year.
