Virat Kohli has been Team Captain for over 2 years yet not even one young batsman has flourished under him. Why?

Why has no young batsman developed and flourished under Kohli's captaincy? In fact, I see a pattern that our batting is actually regressing under him in all formats. 

Vijay, Rahul, and Rahane are all regressing in test cricket. Pujara was also regressing but the Australian test series put him back on track. Kohli basically ended Nair's test career before it even began by favoring a proven failure like Rohit over him with no justification. 

In ODIs, he is yet to nail down a proper #4 batsman despite having over 2 years to do so. Majority of us posters on this forum know that Pandya is an important member of the ODI team but even his batting hasn't developed under Kohli. 

I give lots of credit to Kohli for building a good bowling attack in ODIs and Tests, but we should also acknowledge that our batting is going downhill under him. 

Not even one young batsman like Pandey, Iyer, Nair, Rahul etc. has flourished under Virat Kohli.

He is the worst captain for younger player especially in terms of grooming. He just know how to eat cooked food.

The senior batsmen are playing most of the games. They are not clicking as per expectations and also not giving their slots away .... which means that youngsters have to bat in relatively difficult slots and with the fear of being dropped and not given a consistent run .... I am not sure if it is the captain, the TM, which includes the coach, VC and Dhoni

 

Also did not see guys like Agarwal, Shaw, etc., being drafted. They did well in tests and have the game for ODIs. Pant was probably played in wrong positions

He is an insecure, petty coward, doesn't want competition. Unless something drastic happens he will make sure no young batsman is groomed, aim is to eliminate all future potential threats to his superstar status. Bowlers aren't an issue, they are low caste people in Indian cricket...even if Bumrah becomes a Malcolm Marshall he won't be as big a property as our middling batsman, forget Kohli. I won't be surprised if Yuvraj, Raina, Rayudu, Rahane, DK etc get preference over Gill, Rahul, Pant, Mayank, Shaw etc post the WC. There is no more any 'accountability' left in Indian cricket, Kohli has killed it...Dhoni broke the back with the Srini era harampanti, Kohli has severed its neck in the last 3 years.

Coz he lacks patience, players become better only with failure which he has no patience for . Ppl have abused dhoni n ganguly at their times for giving players long runs but that helped. Failure shud make learn, under Kohl failure leads to insecurity . He wants players as experienced which he is not ready to give

Vijay Shankar can be a good vice captain. He is not a born leader. Bumrah, Ashwin are captaincy material. Someone like Pant can be a captaincy material.

He flips flops too many a times to make a stable batting unit. People talk about only ODIs, he has done that even in tests. Some tests Rohit gets in, then he is dropped, same for Pujara, same for Dhawan, same for Rahane. 

So, neither he backs the right players no he gives them time. Impatience is a key feature of his captaincy.

Bumrah is a definite captaincy material. Many on ICF may not realise this but Bumrah has some charisma about him.

Lot of people talk about Sachin being a selfish batsman but dont see how selfish a cricketer Kohli is, he doesnt like any gun Batsmen coming up and likes being the only Star in the team.

Like it or not, Dhoni’s presence in LOIs has hurt the development of this team. This is still not Kohli’s team unlike the Test unit. 

 

How can a captain, who looks far more assured in Tests (tougher format), look so woeful in LOIs. While Kohli should be blamed for prostration before Dhoni, what to say of Dhoni. In his own days as captain, that joker would not let a single senior player, each of them ATGs by then,  interfere with his decisions. Here he is, shamelessly hogging limelight (only when we win) while Kohli fields in the deep.

 

When Kohli does eventually get sacked as LOI captain after the WC, he would rue his decision of showing blind faith in Dhoni as the biggest mistake of his captaincy career.

No this is very much a kohlis's team. Test n ODI are 2 diff format...kohli is more of text book captain n doesn't trust his insticts which is why is he struggles in shorter format as captain. We all saw how his captaincy looked in last 2 odi without dhoni or take RCB. 

Insecurities were never a part of dhoni's led team be it Indian or CSK....thats always a problem with kohli also very evident with RCB

leave apart rayudu no one was given an extended run.. they wanted to prove shankar is a flop and he admirably performed and put pressure. if dhoni and rayudu flop in IPL along with shikhar and rohit, it will set the cat amongst the pigeons.

 

i feel this IPL is going to be extremely important. Mayank, shreyas and manish are dark horses along with saini. pant and DK will fight it out as winner takes all. rayudu would be a dud this season. 

 

i want mayank to succeed. some soft corner for hard working talented struggling 25 + cricketers...
