Rate him over Jadhav which is not saying a lot but, team Rayudu :(( all the way, he would have atleast smoked 100s against Afghan and WI or maybe Srilanka (if not for the washout) . Jadhav and Shankar didn’t deserve to be here over him :wall:

go Team Anti- 3D

He is still a good bat, but looks like a bad idea to bring him straight to the WC. He should have been tested out for a few more games before deciding on him.

He is our very own Majid Khan. Sublime batting all-rounder. Let us build statues of him all over the country and pray to him day and night.

12 international innings, ZERO 50s. Doubt if any other batsman has continued to play for India, that too in WC despite such horrendous numbers.

I definitely want to see Shankar out of the team, but we have had loads of terrible ODI batsman, including 2-3 who were selected in WCs. Off the top of my head: Praveen Amre (good Test player though), Arun Lal (I think he avgd < 10), Kirti Azad (was in WC), Amay Khurasia, hrishikesh Kanitkar (did little of note with bat & ball), Sandeep Patil (good Test player), Ajay Sharma (TM chose wrong format), Venugopal Rao and Gundappa Vishwanath (excellent Test player).

How did he get in the team???

If I wanted to troll, it would seem like some TN quota. IMO, both Karthik and Shankar did not do enough to merit selection. However, this not their fault really, but that of muddled and short-term selection policies. ideally, we would have groomed the likes of shaw, gill, pant and maybe even agarwal & iyer by now for the 2019 WC but a lot of time was instead invested in Rayudu and Pandey, both of whom were discarded not long before the WC. horrible planning. equally problematic was the identification of a suitable back up opener for dhawan. yes, KLR has done okay, but we should have looked for a similar type of player (aggressive + big match temperament) and groomed him.

I wanted to seem him do well and after he got a start against Afghanistan, was hoping he would help himself to a big score but he got out cheaply. Against the WI also he got a start but didn't make it count. A 50 would have been a handsome contribution yesterday. He should understand the importance of getting an opportunity to bat with plenty of overs to go. He should be looking at it as his chance to shine instead of playing like a scared jitterbug.

Those guys played at a time when our domestic cricket was producing FC bullies with very limited ability against pace. Not the case any longer. We have Pant, Gill, Iyer, heck even Manish Pandey and Ambati Rayudu who are all better batsmen than Shankar, who from being a poor man’s Pandya suddenly transformed into our WC number 4 and developed 3D abilities which only our selectors and team management can see.

I agree. the reason selectors and TM see 3D is because they can't see s*** behind those fancy ray-ban sunglasses.

Every World Cup campaign will have someone like him in side. I still think he has more runs per inning in him then what he is averaging.

Our top 3 score heavy. So middle order doesn’t get chance. If our top 3 fail, middle order  can’t go all guns blazing as they don’t have luxury like English tail. Its world Cup. Our top 3 cant afford to fail
