He was dropped right after that series, people tend to forget that fact. He got his chance again because he was an odi player too just like Rohit Sharma.

While I sympathize with Karan Nair, he has been given ample chances with India A and he has done nothing of note there.Karun Nair and recent Shahbaz Nadeem were filling in for injured players.

Who is he supposed to replace in this team.It is very easy to blame TM. Vihari was MOS against WI and is not getting a sniff in this team.Is he being sidelined due to some nepotism.

Yes he was dropped  but immediately replaced Yuvraj in the 2011 England series Test squad. So the TM kept backing him.

OTOH Kohli preferred Vihari ahead of Nair (have got nothing against Vihari, he deserved his spot). There were rumours of Kohli not being happy with Kaun in the test squad. My conspiracy theory says Kohli saw Karun as being too close to Kumble and took his revenge.

And now Vihari is facing the same treatment as Kohli suddenly has developed a liking for playing 5 specialist bowlers against weak opposition!

If only Kohli's Test captains had treated him likewise (was averaging under 40 after 30 tests).

Kohli's penchant for things going only his way. You are right the selections of Karun Nair & Kuldeep was one of the flashpoints between Kohli & Kumble which was reported later in the media.

Was looking at his numbers in 7 test innings he has scored 374 runs. So 71 in 6 innings.

Also Vihari and Gill are ahead of him for that middle order slot.

71 runs in 6 test innings is pathetic. Any idea who were the opponent bowlers in those tests.

Oz mostly, the same series where Brat was avg in single digits & Rahane had to captain the last test - which ensured Kuldeep played & we actually won!

Rahane has played 48 matches since then averaging 33.

Was Karun Nair worse than that?

Rahane is a better player but the thing he hasnt progressed rather declined over the years

With Nair , he got hard done but man has he declined bad after that. His decline ever since has been so bad that he wnt even get in our C team now

He would have done better in Indian conditions but doubly worse in overseas, actually scratch that his domestic record these days suggest that even in home he would have been an abject failure.

I get its a setback but u gotta get over it coz international cricket is hard

Why do i respect someone like Rahul, pant or have rated these guys so highly....even they had setback from this TM but time n again they came back .

I dnt have much sympathy for nair or kuldeep coz they havent showed the mental strength to comeback from their hard times. U can blame TM till a time but what will u do when u get setbacks in international cricket...whom will u blame ?

i agree, im saying he got hard done by TM but thats over now...whats in his hand is to go back n score runs and prove them wrong

Players around the world has been hard done by

KL, pant was....ganguly was at his time. U cant live in that ur whole life...........

Take Fawad Alam case.....he has been hard done unlike anyone yet he kept piling mountain of runs in domestic

the important point  here is that  proven one dimensional  inadequacies like pujara, rahane, rohit etc  get chances after chances  where as  rookies like Mayank, Karun , Vihari.Shaw  etc get replaced temporarily or dropped for ever after not getting their deserving share of chances. Whether  the experiment  with these type of rookies become successful  in the long run  or not is another matter altogether.

This trial and error method  of providing adequate chances to promising youngsters until  'an all conditional  multi dimensional  TOP 7 with enough vareity is formed ' is not at all happening for some time now.

Nair, IMO, was a fantastic player of spin at his best. but after his drop, even that skill declined (or got derailed). however, even when he was scoring lots of runs, I did not see him as a promising overseas bat. at that time (~5-6 yrs ago), I had more hopes for Bawne as an overseas batter but he faded away badly too
