Have faith in Rishabh Pant like you did with Rohit Sharma

His shot selection has a lot of room for improvement.  For instance the same wide ball Raina wouldn't have tried to belt straight. He would have tapped that to backward point through gap. He has to develop the ability to make the split second adjustment to his shot.

For all that brilliance, Raina after playing 40 ODIs was averaging 26 but had the complete support from the team management at that time.

You are expecting Pant to do things in his 2nd year of int'l cricket which Raina was doing after playing for 4-5 years and 75-80 ODIs.

Shreyas & Pant ,both have played well at 4 & 5, they should be persisted now and should not be dropped after 1 or 2 failure

Agreed. Just need Pandey in place of Jadhav now..

Pandey should learn to bowl underarm spin!

If Raina was that judicious as you say, why did he average in low 30s?

At the position he batted he did more justice to his role than many in the past or present.  In crunch games he stepped up like he did in Asia cup., World cup.

He did get dropped after 2 years before he came back. My point is Pant has to learn to develop wider range of stroke play to be a good finisher which was what Raina used to do.

Pant needs classes from Raina with his split second adjustment on how to score runs in Australia and England in tests. Two ducks in one test down under is the bench mark for Pant.

We are talking about finisher role. Not test matches in Australia and England. What is the connection? Raina has 100 in 69 balls in a T20 game against SA bowling attack. So?

2 years after making his debut Raina was so good that he neither played the 2007 WC (apparently with the coach favoring young players) and was not even in the 2007 World T20 in SA when the big stars were rested.

His fortunes turned only after IPL in 2008, which was 3 years after his int'l debut.

So again you're expecting Pant to do thing Raina did after enough int'l experience.

This guy is ridiculously talented. Look at how teams like England support their hitters. He can be our AB De Villers if he is given the freedom and backing. We need such a player down the order

He is a wonderful talent but ffs stop over estimating his abilities. He is been regularly backed in LOIs now. It's time for him to just solidify his spot.

No, we are talking about playing judiciously and a player who's still wet behind the ears. It's also alright that you are still getting a stiffy over a washed up CSK loser.

This is probably first decent ODI series for Pant. Raina as a 19 year old helped India chase 230 from 92/5 collapse.  Let us not forget we are playing world no.9 ranked team who have the worst Economy rate among all countries in the last few years or so.

Some were dismissing Pant after 1st ODI, calling him nothing in front of Her meyer....Today some are comparing him to ABD and Butler. Pant is a special talent WITH scope for further refinement in shot selection and building an innings...Let's not get into unnecessary comparisons.

The reference was to shot selection for wide of off-stump balls and the discussion went off on a tangent to career comparison. As of now,.Pant's shot selection is a work in progress but it seems to be improving and seems to vary based on the match situation. In the last game, Pant left alone most of the wide of off-stump balls as he batted patiently to rebuild the innings. Today he bashed pretty much everything. Read an article about how he went back to his club coach recently to sort out his game and regain confidence. The work he did with his coach seems to have helped him free up his mind. He hit the first ball he faced in the first T20 for six and has been on a roll ever since. May his good form continue for long.

Do check England's ODI ranking in 2006.
