Great if it happens. We may have differences over team selection but at the end of the day all of us hope that the 11 guys selected kick some kangaroo ass on the field. maniac Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Firstly what is the definition of a shrewd cricket brain? Guys like Kohli and Sachin are called out for being mediocre captains but when they are batting, the way they target bowlers, play % cricket ,play according to situation etc or in Sachin’s case his street smart bowling all show they can be called shrewd cricketing brains in some aspects especially when it comes to their own game. Rohit,Dhoni etc have shown shrewd cricketing acumen in their game as well as captaincy. No questions raised when some one calls them shrewd cricket brains. Zak,Kumble,Ashwin or Bhajji can all be called shrewd bowlers so can most Indian batsmen. In some cases , a guy like Woolmer apparently wasn’t well known for being a leader or an innovator during his playing days but was one of the most innovative coaches ever. Lesser known Guys like Bharat Arun,T.Sekhar Amre?@, Abhishek Nayar etc may not have had stellar careers but have a huge body of work in coaching. In fact Kris Srikkanth behaves like a joker in interviews but he was one of India’s most innovative captains like sending Chetan Sharma at no.3, taking 5 frs vs Nzl,backing a 16 yr old Sachin etc. Where exactly is this Shastri is a shrewd brain theory coming from? I have never heard him say one profound thing in his commentary days, His batting lesser said the better. Always had only 1 gear regardless of the situation costing India many matches. In fact towards the end he started jumping down the track to Donald and Devillers (Fannie) unsuccessfully. He won the game as captain where Hirwani took 16 pitches on an absolute Turner. What exact credentials did Shastri earn as a shrewd cricketing brain?

Umesh is guarnteed to do well atleast in home conditions, is Siraj guaranteed to do anything anywhere. Changing for just sake of changing (Umesh is proven failure in Australia so we will try Siraj) is not called good selection.Siraj has done nothing to put himself ahead of Umesh, he still has chance if he plays in the second match. which means proven failures continue to get chances and young & exciting talents should continue to warm the benches .... In the last tour...even bumrah took a game to get his lengths right... You can expect one off game..... Whoever watched the match told that siraj was bowling better than Umesh RAZPOR 1

I saw the first innings and Umesh looked the best bowler not just best fast bowler.

That is nice but in reality are they better than Umesh? Samething is happening with Dhawan, they want Dhawan to be gone but do they have anyone better than Dhawan. We will never know until they get proper rope. Think the new guys aren't better, you can't play an old guy who has been a failure. Umesh has also lost his pace.

I don't mind others playing at all.But both of them in practice match , Siraj proved equal in leaking runs like Umesh. If Umesh is selected it is not a big crime in my view or a selection blunder. If he flops , Siraj can play second test. If they choose Siraj for first nomatter what happens, he should play second test. You just cannot kick a new player out after one test. Siraj could have made everyone's job lot easier if he had picked up more wickets and did very well compared to Umesh in that match. Edited December 10, 2020 by putrevus

Whoever watched the match told that siraj was bowling better than Umesh I don't classify Siraj or Saini as young and exiting talents. They are 27-28.What is point in having Umesh on tour if you are not letting him play even after he has done better than other guy. Umesh has nearly 150 wickets @30 so this notion that he is a proven failure is wrong.Has Umesh done well in Australia no, samething with Ashwin has he done well in Australia, Same thing with Rohit has he done well in Australia. If Siraj plays first test then only TM is doing right in your opinion? If he plays second test after Umesh's flop as you say will happen is selection blunder by TM? If that is case why bring Umesh on the tour itself. Let us designate home conditions players and away condition players for each country. Tyagi is exciting talent to me. Umesh is a failure in Australia. Kartik is too raw, will need minimum 2 years and they were all exciting talents two years back. No fast bowler has ever done what Siraj did for India A. Let him give a few chances to fail. Edited December 10, 2020 by rkt.india

If Umesh does not play first test then you might as well kick him out the team.
Norman Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 I think we should go with a four men pace attack with shami, Bumrah, Umesh and Siraj..... Please no spinner just for the sake of it....

What exact credentials did Shastri earn as a shrewd cricketing brain? This is a good analysis of Shastri. It asks the questions that were there somewhere in the back of my head but never articulated. I'm not doubting Shastri's talent- he's played for India and that counts. But I think half the reason - if not much of it - he is ascribed as having a shrewd brain is his persona, that confident body language, that stentorian style of speaking English and the way he seems to dominate a discussion, the way his sentences come out as content seemingly worthy of your attention. It's the 'leadership package'. You end up paying attention to the man, his style and not the content of what he says. I mean look at him. And then you have Chandrakant Pandit, who's got a great record as a coach, and basis that record, definitely must possess a shrewd cricket brain, but looks like like he should be running a seedy corner bar in Mumbai, dancing girls and all. His sophiscation lies in him drinking with the right people . Everybody knows he speaks crap . After the World Cup he should have been kicked out .. kumble beats him personality wise but kohli threw him out - pandit , amre etc don’t have the connections to go to top level . indian team is doing ok only cos tremendous talent there . But until u have selectors like Srikanth and coaches who don’t suck up to Kaptaan and selectors , u will not be a top tier team .
