Vihari lacks TALENT. At international level you can’t survive without it.
Sorry but , next...

sorry that's not the case.  Vihari is a Pujara mould batsman and he plays with patience. he had started playing in the previous match also.

Like it is difficult to get Pujara Out , exactly like that it is tough to get Vihari Out. so in a test match , there is a lot of difference between Vihari and JADDU. He is not a stylish batsman with all the shots but has a decent defence. he also does a bit of offspin.

i dont see any reason as to why he should be dropped. please see his track record also.

My preference would be

Gill

Mayank

Pujara

KL rahul

Rahane

Vihari

Pant

ashwin

saini

bumrah

siraj

Umesh out of the 11.

Good team... I’ll still want Jaddu in place of Vihari simply because Vihari is one dimensional. If his batting fails, he’s a liability if the team doesn’t uses his bowling skills.

I don’t understand why he’s not given few overs? It’s not that he hasn’t bowled in a Test match earlier.

Vihari averages 21 in SENA.

Jaddu will play in place of Vihari as per reports.

Possibly they want to utilize Jaddu's left arm spin , But i am sure they will realise that Vihari is a specialist Bat and as a batsman , he targets to score a century. where as Jaddu has not suceeded much in Tests as a batsman.

even with siraj/saini, umesh and boom , we have a decent Pace attack. i would want both siraj and saini to play as Umesh  was not impressive in the second innings and hence Umesh is hot/cold. secondly siraj bowls fuller and saini is pacy, both can succeed on australian tracks.

ideally we wanted a Prasidh as Ishant's replacement. hazelwood got bounce of good length balls and Prasidh could get the same. siraj is also tall so now i expect him to get that bounce.

My XI for MCG

Mayank

Jadeja (left right combo)

Pujara

Gill

Rahane

Rahul

Pant (wk)

Ashwin

Siraj

Umesh

Bumrah

Just like Wade & Burns..  I'd love to see a left hander at the Top.  Jadeja has good technique & defence.  If you send anyone like Rahul & Gill at the top..  It'll be tough for them to survive the opening burst of Aussie attack.  Instead going with a left right combo means their pacers have to adjust their lines. &  Jadeja has a powerful square cut as well in case they bowl slightly short.  In my view this has to be the plan.

He also bats much lower down the order regularly, 7-9 if you count all his career. With our non existent tail his avg is bound to be much lower than say Curran or even some of the Aussie bowlers.

You need batsmen to stay in the game, and Vihari is in the same mould
I think they need to stick with him for one more game.
I think they may bring in Gill for Shaw and Saini/Siraj for Shami.
I dont see any other changes for the 2nd Test

You basically listed everything that is wrong with him.

A Pujara Clone should never bat at number 6. We need players with great strokeplay here.

Also there's no other spot open for him in the team.

Also this basically is the reason why Shivnarine Chanderpaul never gets a mention amongst great batsman despite averaging 51.

The only place where he can bat is number 6 but for that he needs to be better than Pujara.

Contrary to views on this forum Vihari has to be dropped.

His potential is not that high.

He averages less than KL Rahul who is generally perceived as a failure in test cricket.

Sometimes you have to pick players based on what opposition would least like.

S Gill

M Agarwal

C Pujara

KL Rahul

A Rahane

R Pant

R Jadeja

R Ashwin

U Yadav

J Bumrah

M Siraj

Fun fact,

In the 10 tests Vihari has played, Virat Kohli, at the peak of his batting, has scored almost same number of runs as him -597 vs Vihari's 576! In these 10 tests, while Vihari averages 34, Kohli's avg is 33, Che is at 34, Rahane at 36. It may just be a coincidence that Vihari has been made a tough conditions specialist right from the start of his career while his captain gets to feast on poor SA, BD, SL  and WI bowling attacks on home pitches

A bit surprised with these numbers.

Vihari played 4 tests in Australia, 2 in New Zealand, 2 in West Indies, 1 at home Vs SA and 1 in England.

Except the pink ball test in Australia and 2 tests in New Zealand, I think others were good batting wickets. Didn't Pujara hit two or three centuries in that Aus tour where Vihari played? I also think Pant has hit his two hundreds in the games that Vihari played. So, I won't say that he has played on tough wickets only.

As a cricket viewer you want batsmen who have good stroke play.

Although Dravid and Pujara are compared, there is a big difference in the stroke play.

Defensive batsmen like Pujara, Vihari and Rahane are just glorified night watchmen.

There is no comparison of Dravid & Pujara in terms of stroke making.  Dravid has the gift of timing which Pujara lacks.  Both of their forward defense are different.  Only utterly blind people compare these two.  Dravid can play with high tempo as well which Pujara can't.  Dravid has more strokes than Pujara & that's a fact.

One doesnt score 10000 runs in ODIs without some stroke making ability..

This is an important factor. I'm not paying money to subscribe to Sony Six and Star Sports to watch batsman struggling to make even a single run. Already viewership for tests is declining at an alarming rate. If you can't make runs at a decent clip you won't have many people watching.
