He's going through a horror run.  It's been 2 years he's failing continuously.  I don't think he'll make it to England tour.  Unless he regains his touch in WTC final

I think the problem for Pujara is in is stepping up to international cricket after months out.   He doesn't play ODIs, or T20is or even IPL where he can get some international exposure.  Given the level of competition, it's always going to be hard.

 

The last international game, or a game against international competition, Pujara played was in Feb 2020

 

Even so I'd leave him be for now.   It's just been a few games and we will need someone like him.

really not done well outside india in the last 2 years.. 26 average, 4 50's in india, 1 outside india.  If you see this objectively, it's a problem for india in recent times to contend with.

Lets worry about that after series. Forr now we need him.

 

We have won one test in a tussle here thanks to a heroic  knock of Rahane in the first innings and some support from youngsters. Bowlers ofcourse were brilliant but in batting we are still not there yet. Fine line between confidence and over confidence. Our batting just inconsistent and lackluster at times. 

 

Both batting line ups are struggling in this series. Home sides are likely to cash in fast in these situations as they are used to these conditions. We can’t afford to play into their hands this series by dropping guys like Pujara who frustrate the Aussie bowlers a lot already. 

 

 

Also lets stay grounded. Our batting has shown sparks of greatness to come but its not there yet. We are still a mediocre batting side at this point and are dependent on our bowling to win the matches. If we look at threads from 5 days ago Rahane and co all needed to be dropped based on different fans on the wbsite. Many made valid points for each selection and non selection but the jist is very much understandable here - we aren’t doing great with batting overall even though we won this test. 

 

 

Our bowlers have been keeping us in the games. We made few changes. Lets stick to thesr guys now and not changeevery game.

 

Keep Pujara in till the end of this series. Lets worry about the England test series squad once this is over.

 

Lets go India.

Pujara hasn't had much luck so far. Else his 43(160) and even the 17(70) were decent enough knocks blunting the new ball threat of the Aussies. The day he bats on, he will win us the Test almost on his own.

Thats absolutely fine. These numbers are at a time when we have had consistently poor opening partnerships.

 

Add his Aus series number and suddenly the number will look very impressive

Day 2 Session 1 toughest batting conditions of series; overcast conditions, Cummins and Starc bowling at 145kph and getting some swing.

Pujara soaks up the pressure playing out 70 balls. 

Aggarwal didn't last a few balls and Gill lived a charmed life with Aus dropping two sitters.

 

I am not sure if Rahul, Vihari or anyone would have lasted 10 balls during that phase. We all saw what an embarrassment Shaw was. And likes of Rohit and Dhawan no less pathetic in these conditions.

he is not part of the LOI team and also does not feature in the IPL. I think he gets rest aplenty. There is also a decent weeks rest between now and the start of the 3rd test.

 

What he needs is a proper opening pair which means he will not be on edge all the time having to walk in to bat by the 5th over. In test 1 Shaw fell too early and in test 2 Agarwal fell too early.

Pujara is fast proving that last series in 2018 was just one off performance and Aussies have his number now.Hope he does well in next two tests as they need him to stand up and deliver.

He will sort it out. In the first innings he and Gill blunted the new ball attack for one hour, was a big booster for Rahane to build. He is taking catches and fields decent. He needs to be backed and not opt for some idiocy. Otoh, Mayank’s offside play is a walking wicket on the top order. Pujara can be made to open to accommodate KL or Rohit for 3rd test

Keep KL Rahul away from test team until he score runs in FC. He has done nothing to deserve a comeback. Pujara did  very well at SCG last tour and hope he gets to repeat that performance.
