What is the rush to bring in Rohit for the 3rd test?

I look at it it differently.  For me the the first question is what do we need to do to win the next two Tests.   Who should be selected or dropped, only follows from there.

Bowling: Our current bowling combo has shown it can take 20 wickets.  If Umesh is injured, Saini slots in.

Batting: To win , the batting needs to take on the Aussie bowling - blunt that attack and dominate.

Aggarwal goes because he has already exploited technical flaws that can't be fixed for the next two Tests.  That's clear to me.

But Vihari also goes because with scores of 16/8/21 (and last DNB) he has not shown the intent that will help us either blunt the attack or dominate.

Therefore Rohit and KLR slot in.

I understand tailunt is a controversial choice, and possibly undercooked, but he can hardly do worse than Aggarwal, and (if down the order) will probably do as well as Vihari. And if he clicks that'll be golden.

Rohit will play test because bcci and the selectors don't have the guts to remove the egomaniac kohli from captaincy in ODIs and make Rohit the captain which is the right step.

Instead they pacify him by giving him place in test eleven.

Just give him the ODI captaincy and tell him to concentrate on the odi team. Let players suited for tests get the chances they need .

Where is Tyagi?Last i heard he was with them

So what if he is too young ,i have my sixth sense saying he will  have a good  debut if not great

Tyagi has more potential than most other young quicks in our country.

But his length ball is bit of a hit or miss as of today.

In the first innings of the first practice match, he was not bowling his length balls well.

In the 2nd innings, he bowled his length balls really well. And was bowling in great rhythm.

His bouncers are always hostile.

And he has this aggression of wanting to blow the opposition away ... a bit like Bumrah.

With this back drop, do you think we should play Tyagi ?

He will enjoy Sydney ,he has Bumrah on his side

But yes he is young and series being on the line Indian TM won't play him

Saini has been off the boil, thought Australia may target him again,

But Tyagi has that coming back attitude which Saini misses these days,im a huge Saini fan, don't know i see an Ishant Perth moment if they play Tyagi but that is far fetched dream

This is not the correct way to look at the things. Past performances doesnt necessarily predict future performances as well. What if Tailunt fails, will you replace him with KL in 4th test?

There are many things to consider before replacing Mayank or Vihari. Rohit hasn't played a competitive match since last two months, so will he be able to deliver straight away if he is drafted into the team? How is Vihari and MA faring in nets compared to tailunt? KL is sitting on the bench but working out in nets, and had a decent ODI, hence does it make sense to give him a chance over tailunt?

For me they have invested on Vihari for no.5/6, and unless he is not considered as future, he should still play as he has two matches experience over tailunt. He may not have the swag which other guys have, but it was the same with Puj and Rahane, yet we have invested on them. Also he'll be easily replaced when Kohli is available, so TM will not replace him for sure.

Mostly it is MA whose position is at stake, but tailunt/KL needs to be assessed to see who fits the role, or does it make sense to continue with MA.

Why not drop Vihari, open with Rohit and push Mayank into middle? Agarwal was good against Lyon last time, maybe if he's protected from new ball he could be impactful.

Vihari played same number of matches in Australia as rohit and yet to make a 50, whereas rohit made 2 fifties. Wouldn't be unfair to drop him tbh

Rohit won't open being his Ranji buddy Rahane won't let him open,it is very likely they will bench Vihari to accommodate Rohit

Agree. Tyagi came back really well both in the IPL and the practice match.

He bowled really well in the 2nd innings of the practice match.

He is definitely in better form than Saini and will get 2 or 3 wickets from bouncers alone.

KLR is as good or as worse as MA vs swing ..

Except the ball doesn't swing much in Oz, it has more to do with seam movement. KLR right now is a slight upgrade to the hot mess that is MA - guy can barely hold the stick against the trio of Mitch, Haze & Pat.

Only downside i see him he is raw,if you are a tall fast bowler Australia is best place to bowl

Not saying height is everything but it is quite helpful if you are a fast bowler

I really like your thought process.

Agree with almost everything. Only thing I am not sure of is Rohit's form, fitness and the batting practice that he has got in Australia.

Vihari may do better.

KLR  in place of Mayank is a no brainer for me.

Those are the exact 2 changes I want to see in the team. However, I am not very sure if I'd want Rohit in the team. I am not convinced about his test credentials. Sadly, we do not have any other option.

Just read that Natarajan will be included in the 3rd test which if done, will be a disaster!

Rohit is definitely playing the next 2 test matches

Rohit is here to assure India's dominance in the series in absence of Kohli. He is the only guy brave enough to hit Cummins over extra cover for six in the first hour coming in at 30/4. He is the only one with intent. If he was there 36 ao would have never happened. Such a bold shot would have Cummins in stitches that he will lose focus on the game and deliver more freebies. Don't count out the hitman he is here to strike terror. Such terror that girly men like Lyon had to put two fielders on the on side like ODIs to get him out. Mark my words. Rohit will be a dangerous batsmen for the Aussies :winky:

Actually opening is the only way Rohit retains his spot for home series. Once kohli is back, they'll have to drop one bat from MO and Rohit will be most vulnerable if he's at no.6. Only way to retain his spot is if he succeeds at opening

Rohit (or for  that matter KLR) won’t do any worse than Mayank or Vihari. You get an additional screwed Captain (Rohit) to help Rahane on field.

Given the pathetic options we have in the form of Mayank and Vihari, I’ll take a not in form Rohit any day.

This is not a confidence building series for Mayank or Vihari... This a series which India will like to win in whichever way possible.

Both players have already done enough harm in both the matches, let them build their bench confidence in remaining matches...

If mayank does play ,he needs to stay away from starc as much as possible ,Gill needs to help him in that case .

All 3 options are poor/average Rohit, mayank and KLR but with rohit and mayank ,we know that they'll take on Lyon.

I am fine with any of the 3 but agarwal is really struggling like a tail ender ,who knows if rohit is motivated enough he might do well
