He got the grit, technique and character to be a test batsman. His stroke making isn't as good as KL but if we are going to have have Gill-Mayank-Kohli-Pant-Jadeja in the team in another 3 yrs, why not have a gritty player like him in there to add some variety?

Yeah he made some blunders with that run out and dropped catch but he is also the best ranji batsman in last decade for us.. if we can't show faith in a batsman like that and go for ipl stars, what hope does any young ranji player have? we don't want our entire next gen bats to be ipl hacks, do we.

He will not play the home series obviously, but should still be included in the squad and let him play in the tour game against English team. Lets see what he can do against Archer, Moeen and Broad at home in the practice matches. If he does well, take him to england and let him play tour games there as well. Once Pujara and Rahane hangs up the boots we need at least one specialized test batsman who only plays first class games through out the year. Vihar can be that guy for nexy 6-7 yrs

Absolutely agree. I think he didnt need 4 innings. Its his character that after dropping lucky labu on ball 2 of day 4 , getting trolled ruthlessly on social media, getting his hamstring injured he stood still, played more than 25 overs and proved everyone wrong..yes TM will back him now and ensure he becomes the next Pujara..

Do you guys think he can open the innings?

Yes has opened  in the past

Truth is you need attacking players alingside vihari.  India currently have that.

If jadeja was not injured i would push vihari down the order as a firewall.

Lol the funniest thing is 24 hours back everyone in India including ICFers was wondering who could replace Vihari in Brisbane ...and now same population is praying pleading he can play.. and what did he score.. 23 runs.. test cricket at its best..and yes life..

Cricket fans for you...

Here is hoping, he hasn't aggravated his injury. Also, deserves to play all home matches this year. Maybe even ahead of Rahane.

You need to give up this rahane hatred dude.

I would say captain rahane has bought confidence to players in the indian side like vihari. India appear to be a lot calmer under pressure under rahane

Dude, I am said "maybe". In India, he might actually be better option. Then again maybe this was a freak innings. Very hard to replicate again. Still he showed immense mental fortitude. Deserves full season of home matches.

Must say this was a gutsy effort. Mist importantly the decision making was very crisp and clear which is he will see if the match.

However regardless of good stuff from both Pujara and Vihari, we probably should not have both Pujara and Vihari playing in India. I hope team management understands that and plans accordingly against England.

This is Vihari's Joginder moment - long term, he needs to be replaced.

Are you serious?, comparing a moment due to batsman’s brain fart to a guy with a 2nd tier hamstring tear playing the Aussie fast bowlers  and spinners and saving the test along with the lower middle Order ?

At least India has a successor of Pujara in Vihari. Who knows come 2025 at age of 32 he might play at no 3 or 4 and become what Pujara is now to an extent.
