Pure speculation on my part:  It was Rahane's idea to gift that to Lyon.  He just seems like a thoughtful guy. 

 

Two other examples:  When Siraj took a fifer, Rahane asked the umpire if he could hand the ball to Siraj to keep.  When the team made the victory lap, he made sure he called out Rishabh Pant multiple times to come to the front and be the first to hold the flag.

True perhaps. I would have thought it was a TM management idea. Odd to single out Lyon for this honour

Why the eff is Michael Vaughan hankering for a t-shirt?  That's a needy tweet, if ever there was one.  "Mummy, mummy, you like Garry better because you gave him a t-shirt!!"  I can understand fans asking/bantering about this, but it sounds ridiculous coming from someone like him.

The gift to Lyon was at the end of a series. This is still the middle of a contest. Also, that t shirt could have been a Rahane decision. Don’t remember if Kohli ever made these types of gestures.
