Gollum Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) LINK Expected, he is 36 and tough to be motivated playing for a weak team also with a board run by corrupt, inept clowns. Ok career, didn't live up to his initial promise and a massive HTB. Inferior version of our Rahane (both suck against spin, much better against quicks, unable to stamp their authority). But will leave the team weaker and more vulnerable at home, had the ability to score clutch runs and compared to their quota picks he was like the second coming of Viv. Majestic Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Good player but that's about it. He was never at the level of ABD and Amla. QDk should surpass him as an all-format batsman.
AuxiliA Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Liked him as a captain. Gave Ganguly vibes.
Real McCoy Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Good luck on Faf's post retirement career. Hope he plays for for a few more seasons Was a multi dimensional player, a lesser talented ABD one might say. He has played some crucial knocks for SA and for CSK nevada 1

G_B_ Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 its a good time to tour SA glad we are touring later this year. Finally can get a series win
neel roy Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Maaan than johannesberg innings in 2014. We were literally sweating p****ng doing everything when the chase was on. When Faf got out it was 442/7. 16 ! Runs away from victory..he scored around 130. What a player.. Vilander, Vickydev and nevada 3
Majestic Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 His knock in Adelaide 2012 remains his best ever.
putrevus Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 He was a limited player who somehow got treatment as a great player.SA version of Rahane who also will never be able to carry the team.
maniac Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Never got the hype. May be in the league of Rahane at best.

SK_IH Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Run of the mill player, definitely ordinary compared to the great SA batsmen of the past.
putrevus Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 BCCI thankfully has not gone the route of CSA with Rahane.

Jay Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 Can't stand this clown. Always whinging. Goodbye. Good player but nothing special. Worse than Rahane. On par with someone like say Ashwell prince. Prince imo was way more tlsnted though.
Gollum Posted February 18, 2021 Author Posted February 18, 2021 Really struggled in India in the 2015 and 2019 tours, against Ash-Jaddu-Umesh looked like a genuine number 11 tbh, Rahane is far better than this guy. Faf showed initial promise till circa 2014-15 when many though he would carry the great RSA batting legacy forward, but found wanting in the toughest format once the real stalwarts retired/declined. nevada 1

I feel the same. It was not just the retirements - politics, mismanagement of their cricket board, exodus of several good players to Kolpak, AB's extended absence etc also must have impacted him negatively.
coffee_rules Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 SA is heading the WI way. Getting weaker by every year.
Serpico Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Would have been great see him dab on Australia and Smith one last time before retirement. Shame the tour was cancelled
