There are only 3 reasons for which Pant or Sundar should be out of the Test XI for the next 3-5 years

you forget kohli and his elephantine ego

Added my bit there.

Proof of this will be the next innings. A sensible captain will put Sunder at 3/4 and Pant before Rahane. But will Kohli's ego allow this?

Dada has neutralised Kohli with one tweet.

Honestly, I hope that Pant becomes nxt Tendulkar which Indian fans have been waiting for.

Sundar should not play in away series , he is not better fit for this team than Jadeja. Don't compare Pant to Sundar. Pant is a keeper.

nothing wrong with both of them playing. I think sundar's eventual shift should be to become a batsman who bowls occasionally like root, williamson and smith [I'm not saying that he's their level]. plenty started as bowlers and became very effective batsmen - shastri himself is one example and sundar is much more capable.

Unless Jadeja, Ashwin are injured he is not playing in the team, he is not batting at number 5 replacing Rahane. He has done well in the chances he got, let us not make him into something else.Shastri became an opener to fill the gap. They have Gill and Rohit. Rohit is not going anywhere after his batting in this series.

But gill is going somewhere, and that "somewhere" is down. he is better suited for middle order. nothing wrong with making people into something else, if that suits them. plenty of examples of so-called all-rounders who became more oriented toward batting. smith is an example, shastri is another, and shoaib malik is one more (in ODIs).

All joking aside, We need to develop Kishan or another one of the young wicket keepers as the backup keeper. Pant cannot play every single test, ODI, T20 and IPL for the next 15 years running.

Periodically he will have to be rested and scoring a ton as a keeper is no joke - its the bowlers equivalent of scoring a 50 and taking 5 wickets in an innings. We have to manage his workload of he will burn out by the time he is 30.

No doubt.  I would go as far as to say rest Pant from ODIs.  Tests and T20s only.
