Are Roy and Bairstow the greatest opening pair in ODI history?

Hard to argue against it, just for their sheer destructiveness, taken hitting to a new level... the England team in general have

It is Tough to compare across eras, as Morgan pointed out in his post match interview sport like all things evolves, bats and batsmen have become bigger and stronger, conditions stacked in their favour... arguably the quality of new ball bowling in this era is not quite as good as it was 15 to 20 years ago

Nah...... Lil bit of movement and they will collapse. That doesn't mean that they are not great but certainly not the best, in order to claim that spot they need to show versatility which they lack.

Quite similar to why Rohit Sharma will never be the greatest odi opener or even best odi batsman in the world.

Greatest loi opening pair  is Sachin and Ganguly.

Certainly one of the top 3. During their peak they performed against competitive teams(Even Zimbabwe was very decent back then) with quality bowling lineups particularly from Aus, SA, Pak and SL.

Teenagers who have not seen enough cricket might disagree and argue that Rohit-Dhawan is better.

Roy and Bairstow are great approach wise. Not that great when facing quality bowling or slightly challenging circumstances. They are one trick pony like Rohit -Dhawan but very lethal and maximize when conditions are flat unlike the Indian pair.

One adjustment. Greatest hack batsmen of all time. Yes.

hack or not, results speak for themselves.

I have a hard time respecting Jason Roy as a batsman - but the blunt harsh reality is that England openers are comfortably out-performing their more "talented" and "skilled" Indian counterparts.  In fact, you could say that the England batting unit as a whole is doing that - consistently.  And they have a WC trophy to show for it.

Do you think the greatest car is the Ambassador?

Why Sachin and Ganguly, and not Greenidge/Haynes then?

Sachin and Ganguly were genuinely good and delivered  over multiple seasons. Greenidge and Haynes are ofcourse great opening pair and right there in the top.

In England conditions. Sure. On flat Patras. Not on swing friendly pitches, bouncy pitches or Turner's. Lucky for them, most Odis are played on flattish surfaces. However India is going to alter that I am certain when these two hacks play a KO game vs India provided they get that far.

On "swing friendly" pitches Rohit Sharma is reduced to a quivering jelly, mumbling "come to India".

On turners - the likes of Sharma and Kohli are vulnerable to legspin, and I'm not even going to talk about Dhawan, the guy who couldn't Mohammed Hafeez bowling with the new white ball.

On non-flat tracks, all these teams and batsmen are "nanga" in that 'hammam'.

Give credit where its due.  Its not difficult if you possess the capacity for objectivity.

I will give them credit when they actually perform on those pitches. They are not that good.

They are hacks. They hit like hacks. These guys will be found out on Turner's and seam friendling pitches.

They have the power hitting definitely to be danegeours oj innocuous wickets yes.

Those guys you are talki g about are still better than them on tuners.

On seam friendly they are all equally bad.

care to check Rohit’s performance in Wc 2019 in England.

and no these weren’t typical 400 run English wickets either.

No one in their right mind would pick Roy or Bairstow over Rohit in any conditions.

On flat pitches you have a guy who can hit 200’s for fun and tricky surfaces has a lot more technique.

Rohit......Warner.....Roy/Bairstow.....rest
