Takeaway from India vs SL series

So, what we got out from this series ??

 

- Samson and Rana are not good enough. They should stick to IPL only. End of road for them.

 

- Padikkal looked real quality. Gaiakwad isn't a T20 player but looks a class bat for longer format.

 

- Pandey and Dhawan are way past their prime. ( We knew that before the series )

 

- Gowtham is ultra poor.

 

- Saini is as fragile as glass. Should focus on T20 career only.

 

- Sakariya is a 125 one trick pony trundler. Natrajan is way better than him.

 

- Kuldeep looked lost against SL B ( despite picking few cheap wickets )

 

- yuzi or R Chahar is still a contest.

 

- Varun C was decent but not exceptional.

Positives:-

 

SKY and Kishan belong to WT20 squad.

 

Deepak Chahar belongs to WT20 squad.

 

Spinners are good but none extraordinary. UAE conditions can help them though.

Impressed with Shaw,Paddikal,specially Shaw.Wont play WT20 but need to backed for WC 2023. Shaw needs to be told to get fitter.

 

Samson,Rana,Gowtham,Sakariya,Saini shouldnt play intl again. Samson and Saini can maybe play in C teams

 

Seniors havent covered themselves in great glory either

 

Pandey useless.Krunal not good enough

 

Dhawan not good enough for T20. Bhuvi dissapointing too

 

Hardik,we have no backup

 

Chahal was decent in tailor made conditions,Chahar offers more though.Kuldeep was inconsistent

Hopefully end of Krunal Pandya as well

 

timely kick in the back side to Hardik. As I said hope he evolves from here.

 

Deepak and Rahul C, Sky have earned their stripes 

 

Dhawan and Bhuvi time for them to reflect as they couldn’t bash this side as expected 

 

Kishen, Shaw will respect their opportunities a lot more hopefully.

 

Warrier, Varun C something here but is it enough?

 

Kuldeep seems to have found his form back and Chahal was alright.

This series has  atleast given us  some clear pictures about our WT20 squad ( expected to be big squad of 20 players due to covid ). 

 

If everyone are fit, these 20 players pick themselves.

 

Batman :

 Rohit, Kohli, Rahul, Sky, Kishan, Iyer, Pant

 

All rounders:

Hardik, Jadeja, Washington

 

Spinners :

Yuzi, Rahul Chahar, Varun C

 

Fast bowlers :

Bumrah, Bhuvi, Natrajan, Siraj, D Chahar, Shardul

Takeaways :    SKY, Chahar Bros & Kishan.    Some might say Shaw. Maybe they are right.  Only time will tell.  I m not yet convinced coz he looks like a walking wicket against spin bowling.  Will be happy if I m proved wrong.

Please remove Samson .

Reason - slot where he can play in this WC. He can get in only in MO at the most and he is sitting duck vs quality spinners who turn it both ways .

After watching now some 6-8 matches , he just cannot play even 10 balls of quality leg spinners -Be it Ish Sodhi, Zampa, Adil, Hasaranga .

He cannot be our MO option . At 27 i do not see him overcoming this weakness & make it big very quickly. 

Every team will pounce on him  be it - Adil, Walsh Jr., Hasaranga, Akila , Zampa, even a shadab/Qadir, rashid, Mujib  etc etc..

So MO option for Samson ... Story Over .

Samson is not in my original team of 20 for the WT20. He is a backup in case Iyer doesn't recovered fully from injury or somebody else got injured. Even then he has to fight Shaw or  Dhawan to be in the team.

FFS, next time please pick a proper leader.  Even Shaw with his u-19 WC experience would have been a better choice.

 

Our entire cricketing set up seems to have taken being uni-dimensional as a motto for life. Most of them, wether old or young, just cannot field. Best to sack each and every fielding coach across all levels.

This. For a team made of fringe players you would have thought there would be hunger, desire and fighting spirit but got none of that.

 

Fielding and running were big red flags. Consistently dropping catches and laboured running on the field. Looked more like a retirement XI than one trying to break down the doors into the senior team.

Even the world's best T20 team can't beat a buttom ranked team if the former plays with 4 batsmen and 7 bowlers. Thanx to covid isolation of all batsmen.  Nice trolling Kazi Bhaijaan.     

However, I agree with u on the last para about Hardik.

We now know Samson Rana Gowtham Sakariya are not international standard. 

Krunal as well

 

SKY Kishan should be in the final 15 for WT20.  SKY is actually first name on the sheet for WT20 to counter guys like Rashid K & Hasaranga.  Nobody in the Indian line up can take these guys down.  Pant maybe but not sure. 

 

Deepak Chahar & Rahul Chahar are street fighters & have winner mentality.  Both should be in starting XI.  Varun C is in reserves. 

 

End of Dhawan & Pandey hopefully.
