Sir Ravindra Jadeja is just a home track bully

In home conditions, he is a beast with bowl. Excellent with bat over last few years.

 

But overseas, he is just a Moeen Ali level bits and pieces cricketer who probably needs another tablet of Sanjay Manjarekar's verbal diarrhoea to get going in these conditions.

His strength was keeping it tight and making the odd ball turn. Every ball will be on the stumps. After his injury he has lost his consistency. Just needs more practice to get it back, but I think he is spending more time on batting practice

Every Ind spinner since 1990 is overrated based on his exploits on rank turners at home. The sooner the team management realizes this, the better. Yes, relatively some spinners may be better than other Indian spinners but it is like picking the less painful option. 
 

As for batting, if given a consistent run in various conditions and form, the batting average would also likely be less than 30.

I don't think we have had a single spinner since then whose home and away averages differed by than less than 5, which is what one would ideally want. the dependence on preparing out-and-out turners will hurt both batters, pacers, and spinners... After the 2015 series against SA, we got some better pitches but I have seen the pitches at home regress again lately, especially during the Eng tour.

If his bowling is going to be average he has to raise his batting significantly to offset that.

Jaddu is neither a strike bowler nor has he done a workhorse type job of bowling lot of tight overs.He is in solely to cover up for the miserable middle order. His is a fundamentally flawed selection. The TM missed a trick in not taking a punt on Axar Patel who has played County cricket a few years ago, putting in couple of noteworthy bowling performances. He can bat too.  Kohli has completely sidelined even Ashwin who also played County cricket ahead of this series to sharpen his skills.

Atleast Kumble and Ashwin have good  WPM. They have been workhorse for their respective teams in all countries and as workhorse produce decentish numbers. Jadeja as sole spinner has just been exposed as a bowler, having worse stats than even Moeen Ali in this series.

He used to be decent with the ball overseas up until his recent injury..  Barely able to land the ball in one place now let alone keeping it tight. 

His pitch map last night was disgraceful.  Even Root bowled much better. 

 

Needs to be on spot today or his old self if we have a shot tonight. 

Batting wise his ceiling is a 40-50 runs player on a good day.  Too limited especially against Pace.

WPM on its own is not too useful as every team loses wkts in every game most of the time. A 5 for 150 is less valuable than 5-25 for e.g.

He was excellent in Sydney last year with bowl. But he need to replicate it again in Oval as this is his best bet.

There's an issue with Dukes, even Kuldeep struggled majorly on his first tour, of course this is Jadeja's third but the issue could fundamentally be with the ball. Do you remember Swann's avg in Eng & other spinners post his retirement in Eng? there's a good chance that the ball is fundamentally skewed towards pacers, but also harder to grip for spinners.

 

That's one theory, the other is obviously the pitches - since 2011 Eng have really product a lot of greentops against us! Among major nations probably only Aus have faced more but then they play there virtually every other season & have a pace heavy attack!
