Hutton and Hobbs won’t last more than a couple of overs against Anderson and co, Starc/cummins/Hazelwood, Indian fast bowling resources or spin resources for that matter even Rabada/Nortje or  Pakistan fast bowlers of the current era.

why is is playing period only 2 years- agreed he's done well in the last year or so but lets have a comparable analysis and include the date from the year he played his first test in 2013... the average wont be as rosy

He started as an opener only in 2019 and hence the stats. We was batting in the middle-over before then.

Even if we include the average since 2013, his average is 46.87 which is also pretty good.

Nothing wrong with your statements. For all we know, B Mitchell could be very good batsman who played only 27 matches.

But the important difference is, we only know B Mitchell as a test player. But we know the LOI player that is Rohit Sharma.

 

Considering in an overall way, a career like B Mitchell is pretty good if he can extend it by few more years and probably make it close to like that of Hussey.

Rohit has been playing since he was 20. Sadly it took him so long to get his test temperament right. He could have been an career ATG test opener, but even when he retires his sample size will be small.

Hi world cup success in England has helped him to some extent. Actually England is a great place to score runs. Many of our players from the past have done well here. But you need a bit of technique to survive and score runs. He and Rahul didn't mind playing square through off side. It helped them.

Opening in every test in England is tougher than pink ball test in Australia.

two issues, india messed up his development by delaying his introduction to test cricket (W Indies 2013) when he really should have been introduced in S Lanka  2010 instead of Raina. Second issue which compounded the first, grew up on diet of t20. Had he played in the 90s and played county etc early on I suspect he would have had at least as successful an overseas  test career as Ganguly

For an opener the batting average of 58 is an exemplary achievement. Rarely openers average that many in cricketing history.

At best Rohit can end up our 3rd best opener after Gavaskar and Sehwag
